I have a '22 Timberline. The current generation of vehicles intimidates me to an extent due to the abundance of cheap electronics, sensors, etc. I have always been curious about how a person would replace the large 15.5" screen if it failed without taking it to a dealer. I looked up the part and found it has been discontinued on multiple sites (tasca for example). That doesnt seem right considering the likelihood that some new '24 expeditions are still on the lot.

Usually if a part has been updated with a later version, the old part references the new one. Does anyone know anything about this? Is my car totaled if the screen goes out? :)

As a side note, has anyone ever attempted to convert from the large screen to the smaller version? I drive a lot and I really miss the physical knobs for the heater controls. The touch screen is very distracting.

The ford part number is NL1Z10D885A

Thanks

While I dont have a real answer to your post, I totally agree with the preference of the knobs compared to the touchscreen.

While my 19 expedition was at the dealer, they provided me with a 2024 Ford Escape Platinum trim. It has one of those Ipad looking displays with all the controls. I found my self looking down on the screen looking for the correct area to touch to turn on the heat, etc. Very unsafe while driving compared to physical knobs u can feel for. Definitely looks cool tho.

My 22 timberline has the 15.5 screen. I didn't like it at first but have since gotten used to it. I can with just a glance hit the correct "icon" to change heat , fan speed, whatever. So, I do like it now although, I also have an 18' F250 superduty and I believe the controls with with 8" screen was Ford's best set up.

There are several posts on this screen, and I agree that the climate controls are a dangerous distraction when driving. Instead of physical knobs where you can manipulate while driving, the touch screen takes your eyes off the road to use. A very poor design that needs to go away.

After I got used to it (and figured out that I hate it), I concluded it was some techie experiment by a bunch of coders at Ford and that it would go away. Then I saw the new expedition Tremor. They doubled down on the silliness. It looks to me as if you will need to navigate a menu just to turn up the volume on the radio using the steering wheel controls. I'm a cynic but I think the touchie screen is supposed to appeal to the car buyer. Not the car owner.

The steering wheel volume controls work right out of the box. No menu navigation required.

Also, the big knob on the 15.5" display always defaults to adjusting the volume.

Once that vehicle gets to be a few years old, that screen will be so outdated, it won't even be funny. So dumb to put all this junk in the cars today.
