As I mentioned above.. This sure seems like rodent damage to electrical wires (especially given the pick you posted of chewed plastic). Your insurance should cover this under Comprehensive. Screenshot_20250825_101814_Google.jpg

Rob6805 Thank you for the tip. I called the insurance company. They are sending me forms to make a claim then I am supposed to be put in touch with an adjuster.

I do have the cable and forscan loaded into my laptop... The only thing I used it for was to program in that I added the trailer brake booster to the car.

I'm getting to my wits end on this thing. I will contact Ford and a locksmith tomorrow, But the light at the end of the tunnel is getting dim..

Here is a question for you guy's how much is this going to cost me at a dealership? to have it towed and fixed?

I haven't taking anything to a shop since My EXP in 1987...
Diagnostic work usually is charged by the hour. If they are good I'd venture more than 16 hours at whatever the shop rate is per hour.
The deal is finding a repair shop that has an electrical **** kid that truly knows his shit. Where your paying out of pocket I'd be shopping it around. I don't think I'd be going to a dealer for this.

Here is the new Forscan { Its exactly the same as the first scan... i just overlaid them on my bigger monitor}

I'm not sure what to do now. It's still not starting even when being jumped... The drivers side mirror opened, so I'm not sure if it knows its unlocked. I put the horn fuse back in and it hasn't gone off yet.

Still confused on if I should call a locksmith or tow it to the dealership.

Something has chewed through your wiring. You found two areas, but there could be many more.

Only a dealership (or a good mechanics) can fix this, and I'm afraid it probably won't be cheap.

Get it towed.

Thanks Fizzy... The wife has just renewed a AAA membership so we can get it towed to the local dealership.
We also have forms to file an insurance claim. So I think I'm going to have the adjuster tell me what to do next.

I'm going to pull all fuses and check for continuity first, possibly later today.. Still raining here over 3" in the last 24 hrs..

It won’t start yet for a while. Did you delete all the codes before re scanning?

No I didn't delete anything. Can I do that with my regular code reader? I know little to nothing about Forscan.

I just checked and it is pulling low amps at about .04 to .06 So something is happening.

I want to check all the fuses for continuity,,, I was thinking something might have blown with the loose ground cable at the start of all this..

It's still on the 15 amp maintainer, say's the battery is at 100% It said 45% after running the forscan and trying to start it over and over.

What do you mean by "It won’t start yet for a while" Does it need to relearn or communicate or something?

As long as the horn blows and the hazards are on, it will not start because it thinks it is getting stolen. Erase all codes with Forscan or a code reader than rescan it. Since the battery has been disconnected many times there are probably crap codes stored… so see what you get back after clearing the codes then rescan it.

My 2007 did this and all it was, was the alternator shorted out. Easiest to change but highest priced alternator I've ever had to swap out. Dunno how difficult it is to change on the next generation.

Taking the alternator off and to a NAPA, Autozone, O'reillys or other parts store to get it tested will rule that in or out as the problem.

Why would you erase codes if you are taking it to the dealer?
There is most likely unseen damage.
Ins may pay for replacement of entire damaged harness. If it's covered don't mess with it anymore..

Your comprehensive insurance may cover the damage. If so, continue with the claim, as what you are experiencing may be rodent damage and can be very expensive to trace and repair the possible wires that got damaged. I wish manufacturers would stop using wire shielding that contains soy and other food type products.
This works for future protection: Since the most common damage is under the hood, put cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil in a sock and tie it somewhere in the engine compartment where it doesn't interfere with anything. There are also deterrent sprays and electric devices that work as well.

Well its getting towed to the local dealership tomorrow morning. I have an appointment at AutoNation Ford on Thursday.
I wish we were taking it back to Brandon Ford, but that's 50 miles from me.
The insurance company sent me an estimate of $ 630.44... I think they are off a lot.. Probably need to move that decimal point to the right a space.

Thank you guys for all your help!!! I will follow up and let you know what happens from here.

Just an update, She was towed away about a month ago. It sat at the dealership for 2 weeks in the same spot.
They finally started working on it about a week ago.
Replaced the fuse / Junction box.... There is a recall on that, I had no idea about.
Called and said still no communication at all.
Asked for 5 hrs of diagnostic time. $240.00 hr.
Called again Yesterday wants to replace the "Communication Module?" Is that the OBD2 port?
Said He got me a discount for Labor Hrs $140.00 Hr.
I asked again about replacing the CPU he said it would be covered under the powertrain warranty (71K miles on the car)
But he wants to check the modules first, and none of those are considered powertrain, so not covered.

What did your ins co say? Doubtful rodent damage is covered under warranty. Dealer should give you an estimate to replace the damaged harnesses (the ones that can be seen) and ins should cut a check for the initial amount. Then cover any overage after repair is complete.

Huh? No comms at all? Not even one of the 50 modules are communicating? Nah, there is something off. I mean modules need to be able to talk to each other and to the scanner. I’d rather pull a module ECM & BCM and hook it up directly to the scanner and see what their codes are. I think you need a better tech.
I’d say start disconnecting modules until something else comes back.
