Funny you should ask I'm wondering the same. Our '03 4x4 5.4 373 gears@ 45000k gets 12 with 90% stop and go around town never getting over 50mph. Our trip to Bristol produced 19mpg. on cruise at 72 mph. Coming home using my foot gusting between 65 and 85 with an all around average of 75 mph it still got 19mpg. Cruise control seems to burn more fuel in the rolling hills due to the fact that it coasts off the hill then opens full throttle at times to maintain the pre set speed.

I would be doing cart wheels if my gas hog got 19 mpg. However when I bought the pig I wasn't buying it for the mileage. My 03 gets about 15 on good days.

ok...I'm in on this one too

is there a write up on these changes with some pics anywhere?

where (online) are you buying these parts - I assume we have
an online vendor relationship that gives us a nice deal?

I have 80k miles on my expy so I can imagine that these plus plugs will make me a much happier camper.

My '04 (w/limited slip differential and associated gearing) used to get about 14.5 mpg average. I had the fuel filter replaced and spark plugs re-gapped about 3,000 miles ago. Since then, I've averaged 15.6 mpg.

It's interesting how much the mileage can vary. At 75, you get about 15.5 mpg. However, at 50-60 over rolling terrain, the computer shows an average of 22 mpg. I guess its true that speed does kill your gas economy.

If you watch the computer closely, you see that the worst hits on the fuel mileage are when you start from a dead stop and climb hills. It would be interesting to find a hybrid system that would provide an electric assist during those times in order to improve your fuel economy.

Mileage sucks...why Ford?

I love this truck but hate the mileage. Gas was $1.60 gal. when I bought it. It has 7K on it, can't afford to drive it and make the payments. Can't dealers or Ford do anything to make these get better mileage. The new ones are supposed to get over 20 mpg average. Think we all got sold a rotten bill of goods. I get 10 mpg around town and drive like an old fart...fact I am an old fart.
