I'll be removing mine as well. I have an xlt with no lights and the running boards are the only really rusty looking part of the truck. Away they go.

The drivers side plug is towards the front of the boards, and the passengers is towards the back. Just unplug and tuck. The lights will stay in the boards.

Best thing I ever did. I hated those things.

I was going for more of an off road look but then again all my passengers are short. So they just disconnect and pop right off?

Yep. Here is the plug on the drivers side, towards the front of the truck. It is just setting against the frame as it's so short it won't go anywhere:

This is the passenger side in the back. I just tucked it over the frame:

This is the bag of bolts you'll end up with when you're done:

There are some that bolt into the rocker, and some that go into the frame. Once you crawl under the truck, it will make sense.

I think they look much cleaner without. The wife and youngun's are short, but they don't ride in it enough to warrant them. If I do put another set on, it will be tube steps like Walnuts has.

I also took my running boards. I think the truck looked way cleaner without them. Then after a week of hearing the wife, I ordered the ones I have now.

Just follow like Junior showed. I just realized I don't have an album anymore so I'll have to get my act together and do that, but I have mine off and love the look of it. I bent mine a little and the passenger side lights didn't work, so that's why i did it. It does look more aggressive without them IMO. I am 6' and have no problem getting in and out, but I frequently get complaints from people who are shorter...

Ditch em. First it'll look meaner, cleaner....and greener (but only if your truck is green to begin with) Don't worry about passenger ingress and egress. Mine is lifted 7 inches, doesn't have the boards and ALL my passengers are short (my kids....who are also snotty and obnoxious to boot but that's another story for another thread)

I just took mine off yesterday and just zip tied the cables up for now.

Gunna remove lights from boards and built something for them under the truck, like underglow almost ;D

I bought mine with them not installed (but came with the truck) and the wife wants me to put them back on. i dunno, a '97 Eddie Bauer (White & Tan) with black boards? Doesn't sound like it'll look right but I guess in '97 they were all black...
