2000 expys have welded on fuel pressure regulators (no flange for bolt on regulators). I swapped to a 97 fuel rail on mine as they still had bolt-on regulators. This will allow you to use many of the adjustable fuel pressure regulators available for the mustangs of similar years.

If you do install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and adjust it to either side of stock it will make difference short term only till your ecu compensates for it.

Typically you should not need one unless you have modified the fuel system in some way. Bigger pump(s), injectors, lines etc....

Thats what I have but had to swap to a 97 fuel rail to use it.

You need a two hole flange to bolt on available adjustable mustang regulators. If you have this you are good. Check out adj regulator in ebay listing above. Need flange on fuel rail for this to mount too. My stock unit was welded on with no flange. But there was a C clip I believe which allowed you to disassemble regulator and replace with stock non-adj regulator components.

Toms89 is right FPR's arent usefull on a mainly stock fuel system if you want an improvement in fuel get some larger injectors and/or a high flow fuel pump you will need to get a new or modified MAF to match the new larger injectors also you will need a modified tune weather your edge tuner can modify injector size or if you can get them to make a file for you or spend the $$ and get her dyno tuned.
i believe 5.4 2v motors have 24 LB/HR injectors stock i would go for a set of ford racing EV6 30 LB/HR heres a link http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustang-ev6-30-injectors.html and as for compatibility some high performance items (injectors, COP's, heads, cams, etc) for the 99-04 4.6 mustang GT will fit 97-02 4.6 and 5.4 motors

Tom, being this is for a 5.0 and a 4.6...I take it it will be sufficient for the 5.4

Yes. As long as you can locate a 5.4 fuel rail from a 97, maybe 98 expy?!, f150 etc.. that had bolt on regulators. There is no new stock available for them anymore. I could not even find any from my local scrap yards. Got lucky and my tuner had one he just removed from a modified lightning.

Keep in mind adding more fuel does not make more hp but that making more hp does require more fuel. Unless you change heads, cams and intake or add some sort of forced induction I would think stock fuel system will handle it. And unless you are exceeding the stock fuel system capacity any fuel system mods are really a waste of $$.

The ecu attempts to maintain a 14.7 air fuel ratio based on its readings from the 02 sensors regardless of what you do to the fuel pressure. Under WOT the air/fuel ratio goes to about 12.5 to 1. Blower guys aim for about 11.6 to 1 WOT with the tune.....not for more power but engine longevity. It would actually make more power leaner but also likely to detonate due to the increased heat of the intake air.

....

Oh snap.....I am preaching to the preacher..lol.

Tom, please don't feel that way...LOL.. that's the best thing about this forum is bouncing ideas around...makes sure you put money in the right places... I'm just scatchin my head of this problem I'm having...when I was doing my 0 to 60 runs it would jump of the line but as RPMs were building in the power band only in the 1-2 shift if feels like its not getting fuel or someone through a anchor out the window....but when it hits 2-3 and 3-4 it feels like it clears up...did 3 runs 0 to 60 and best time was 8.6 not bad

Ok guys my bro-in-law has done some research on this adjustable fuel regulator and has determined that the 1998-99 Corvette LS-1 fuel regulator will interchange with this Expedition fuel system....he goes on to inform me that many automotive mfg's use the same parts just for different apps...also his performance programming theory is that increasing the fuel pressure starting of at 8% more will give a improvement in WOT response and minimal throttle response. So for a 139.00 its worth a shot...the nice thing is that yes during normal driving the computer will adjust and keep my fuel mileage the same....sound like im gonna get my cake and eat it too...he says that we should gain about 10 to 15hp at the rear wheels...the plan is to video tape three 0 to 60 runs using the Edge programmer and then change out the regulator make the adjustment and due another 3 runs with increased fuel pressure...keep you updated.

I don't know man that could be a waste but I wont piss on your snow cone if I were you I'd take it to a shop that can put your expy on a dyno and create a tune file specifically for your truck. The tune on your Edge CS is a generic basemap designed for plug n play power I strongly recommend getting it professionally tuned preferably by a shop familiar with the ford Mod motors

Kevo & Joe,
Thanks for the input...But my brother-in-law is ASE master tech and also did two years of power performance programming...He is one smart guy....in fact he amazes me with some of the things he has done...I think there are many ways to get performance with out radical and expensive changes.... I'm just trying to cure a drive-ability problem I have have had with this truck since day one....and I don't want to sound like a spokesman for Edge Products as I have been referred to before, but the Edge is not just a basic programmer...yes it has 3 power levels, but it allows you to to change several parameters above the main line programs they offer....I like hearing everyones feedback, but i have pissed away bigger $$ on other things so 130.00 wont break me...and if it works which I have no doubt....you all will get a cheap performance trick with the R&D already done.....LOL...

Ok not trashing Edge but yes those tunes are base maps from a vehicle they tested on. They're not 100% perfect for your expy I seriously recommend spending about $150-200 and having it professionally dyno tuned
