Foul smell when starting 2017 Expedition

Any recommendation on an ozone generator brand or performance criteria for selecting one? It looks like output is measured in mg/h. And how about the procedure to use it? Would you run the unit in an unoccupied vehicle with the vehicle's AC running and on recirculate mode? Am I thinking right?

Cabin air smell from vents – leaking evaporator core?

Thanks igneous. Looks like a good product. If I could just pack the air ducts with these. For whatever reason the 2015s don't even have a cabin air filter.

Foul smell when starting 2017 Expedition

My first Expedition, a 2015 with 90K on it, starting putting a nasty smell out of the vents a few weeks ago. Dealer tried telling me the smell was from the evaporator core leaking refrigerant. They’d be glad to rip out the dash and replace the evaporator core. They evacuated all the refrigerant...

Cabin air smell from vents – leaking evaporator core?

2015 Expedition with almost 90K. Weird smell coming from the vents. Started out of the blue. Dealer says is it refrigerant. They evacuated the AC system and said it was not full, therefore must be a leak. No external leaks, therefore it must be the evaporator core – and big replacement expense...

Help me stay a Ford man

Final report: The dealer observed three things: 1) There was nick in the oil filter. 2) The serpentine belt was shredded. 3) The water pump had pieces of belt tangled up in/wrapped around it. The water pump was seized. So one of two possibilities: 1 Something put a hole in the filter, the...

Help me stay a Ford man

Good point. Trainmaster mentioned a key statement earlier: "Everything mechanical's just waiting to break. That's what it does eventually." The longer the “eventually” the more we trust a company (or a particular model). Granted there's always the "isolated case" or "freak occurrence." But the...

Help me stay a Ford man

Yes, and hoping for no changes. I was kind of left with a disclaimer. I was told it was a mess (oil everywhere) and still needs cleaned up, almost as if there could still be something lurking under there.

The service department called. They say the water pump was seized up. As for the motor oil, they “think” there is a nick in the oil filter. They still have to get everything cleaned up and back together. Stay tuned.

Help me stay a Ford man

That doesn’t sound too bad. Ultimately I’ll be interested not only in what happened, but why. I’m a little over 60K, and that just seems too new to be getting stranded. Maybe I’m just used to the Town Cars and Crown Vics. I don’t recall any breakdowns until well past 100K. Of course, I wasn’t...

That must be the case. The steering was ok the whole time.

Perhaps I’m just frazzled because my anti-Ford “friends” went straight to the worst case. Like something with the turbo, or something simple happened and it may have damaged the turbo.

Well, there’s something I don’t like about the Type 3 information display. You have to cycle through to get to the stuff you’d like to have up all the time. I’d like to be able to see the OIL PRESSURE, OIL TEMP, TRANSMISSION TEMP, and ENGINE COOLANT TEMP all the time. But you lose these when you...

The alternator and the water pump makes sense. Wishing it was the power steering fluid. But it’s motor oil.

Help me stay a Ford man

It did look like the coolant expelled from the surge tank. I was pretty far from home and with the warranty I had it towed to a Ford dealer. I didn’t even try getting into anything. I figured Ford would be frown on messing with it yourself.
