Door OPEN light stays on
Been a while, and I've put up with it, but with the warmer weather coming in, want to isolate which sensor is giving false info of "door open" light on the dash cluster. Where are these located, and how hard is it to pinpoint the faulty one ? Any ideas/suggestions ?- MakDad

Yeah, took it off the following day, and the 90 degree bend in it was all "gummy" and had a hole thru it. Seemed like it overheated and made the rubber hose very soft and gummy. I found a hose at home with a 90 degree bend in it, I believe it was 9/16" diameter. Popped it on (which was...- MakDad

Can you identify this part and how to replace it? (pics)
Hey guys. Need some help. Recently started having idling problems with my 4.6L XLT. Used to surge RPM at idle between 600 and 1200. So thinking it was a bad IAC valve, I replaced with a new one. update Hey guys, just wanted to give a quick update. Approx. 7,000 miles later and no issues whatsoever. Pressure gauge reads in the middle and no more ticking noise. Seems like the tensioners are holding up.- MakDad

Yes, there were locking metal shims that held the tensioners compressed. (in the pic in the previous posts you can see one of them). I removed them. The side with the tensioners always stays rather tight. The other side however, the one at the guides, becomes lose about every 1/2 turn of...- MakDad

putting her back together tomorrow... one thing is confusing me. As I turn the crank, first one side, then the other side gets slack in the chain. At one point they're both rather tight.... is this normal ? I hope I didn't screw up timing when I took the oil pump off. I DID mark the...- MakDad

Quick update as I grab some lunch here ******* Pulled the oil pump off. Thing looks almost mint except for the junk in the little channel that goes around the pump (see pic, circled in red) No ground plastic or metal parts anywhere !!!! Cleaned it up nicely with carb cleaner and put...- MakDad

OK, so now I'm leaning towards replacing the oil pump also (just in case), but am weary of taking the chains off to do it. IF I LEAVE THE CHAINS ON THE CAMSHAFTS GEARS AND ONLY TAKE OFF THE CRANK SIDE OF THE CHAINS, DO I RISK ANY MOTOR DAMAGE IF THE CRANK DOESN'T MOVE ?????? Please let me...- MakDad

*** OIL FILTER CUT UPDATE *** Cut the oil filter today, looks promising. Besides the regular stuff, I DID find aluminum dust particles in the paper filament. Looks like the ground dust from the chain grinding the timing cover. Other than that, nothing else. No plastic, no metal pieces...- MakDad

No noise from the top end at all !! The only noise was (what I believe) was the chain slapping the cover as it wasn't a rhythmic tick-tick-tick, but a random noise like a chain slapping the cover, LOL. The SUV didn't pull any different, seemed like the power was all there. It was driving...- MakDad

Yes, new timing set, minus the chains and gears. The chains definitely feel solid, especially on the driver side where everything held up. I'm also leaning towards a new oil pump. If the bits went thru the bypass valve, is the engine done for ? I was thinking about doing several...- MakDad

I do not know. Just the basic 4.6L in the 2003 XLT. I believe 2v. So you are saying the valve covers can stay on as long as the oil pan is off to get the timing cover off ? Seems like just a whole bunch of unbolting from the front, doesn't look all that bad except maybe a bit...- MakDad
