    Door OPEN light stays on

Been a while, and I've put up with it, but with the warmer weather coming in, want to isolate which sensor is giving false info of "door open" light on the dash cluster. Where are these located, and how hard is it to pinpoint the faulty one ? Any ideas/suggestions ?

Can you identify this part and how to replace it? (pics)

Yeah, took it off the following day, and the 90 degree bend in it was all "gummy" and had a hole thru it. Seemed like it overheated and made the rubber hose very soft and gummy. I found a hose at home with a 90 degree bend in it, I believe it was 9/16" diameter. Popped it on (which was...

Can you identify this part and how to replace it? (pics)

Hey guys. Need some help. Recently started having idling problems with my 4.6L XLT. Used to surge RPM at idle between 600 and 1200. So thinking it was a bad IAC valve, I replaced with a new one. Now , no more surging, but the RPM at idle is around 300, almost sounds like it's stalled, but...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

update Hey guys, just wanted to give a quick update. Approx. 7,000 miles later and no issues whatsoever. Pressure gauge reads in the middle and no more ticking noise. Seems like the tensioners are holding up.

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

Yes, there were locking metal shims that held the tensioners compressed. (in the pic in the previous posts you can see one of them). I removed them. The side with the tensioners always stays rather tight. The other side however, the one at the guides, becomes lose about every 1/2 turn of...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

putting her back together tomorrow... one thing is confusing me. As I turn the crank, first one side, then the other side gets slack in the chain. At one point they're both rather tight.... is this normal ? I hope I didn't screw up timing when I took the oil pump off. I DID mark the...

Not hard, just time-consuming. Here's what I found in more detail. Enjoy these pics of the tensioner disaster:

Quick update as I grab some lunch here ******* Pulled the oil pump off. Thing looks almost mint except for the junk in the little channel that goes around the pump (see pic, circled in red) No ground plastic or metal parts anywhere !!!! Cleaned it up nicely with carb cleaner and put...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

OK, so now I'm leaning towards replacing the oil pump also (just in case), but am weary of taking the chains off to do it. IF I LEAVE THE CHAINS ON THE CAMSHAFTS GEARS AND ONLY TAKE OFF THE CRANK SIDE OF THE CHAINS, DO I RISK ANY MOTOR DAMAGE IF THE CRANK DOESN'T MOVE ?????? Please let me...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

Steve, what's inside those tensioners ? Are they spring-loaded ? I don't want to kill myself trying to take one of these apart not knowing what to do. To pull the oil pan on the 4X4: 1. I removed the cross member ( 2 bolts on each side) 2. Removed the torsion cross bar 3. Removed 3...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

*** OIL FILTER CUT UPDATE *** Cut the oil filter today, looks promising. Besides the regular stuff, I DID find aluminum dust particles in the paper filament. Looks like the ground dust from the chain grinding the timing cover. Other than that, nothing else. No plastic, no metal pieces...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

No noise from the top end at all !! The only noise was (what I believe) was the chain slapping the cover as it wasn't a rhythmic tick-tick-tick, but a random noise like a chain slapping the cover, LOL. The SUV didn't pull any different, seemed like the power was all there. It was driving...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

Yes, new timing set, minus the chains and gears. The chains definitely feel solid, especially on the driver side where everything held up. I'm also leaning towards a new oil pump. If the bits went thru the bypass valve, is the engine done for ? I was thinking about doing several...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

quick update UPDATE ****** So I went ahead and pulled the front timing cover off. Wasn't too difficult, just a pain in the behind. All those rusted bolts didn't help much, either. This is what it looked like inside ! Can you see what's wrong with this picture ?! This is the...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

I do not know. Just the basic 4.6L in the 2003 XLT. I believe 2v. So you are saying the valve covers can stay on as long as the oil pan is off to get the timing cover off ? Seems like just a whole bunch of unbolting from the front, doesn't look all that bad except maybe a bit...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

155,000 on the engine. Had the car since it only had 14,000 on it. Never game me ANY trouble. Only oil changes, brakes, and tires. Feels like small plastic matter, but I'm not 100% sure. It's so finely ground up it's hard to tell. All I know is that it would definitely block the pickup...

    Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****

So after about 5 hrs of dinking around with the front axle, finally yanked the oil pan off the XLT 4WD. This is what I found. Another case of busted chain tensioners ? Also, check out the crud blocking off the pickup tube. The question is , where are the other pieces ? I'm pretty sure...

How do I take the oil pan off 4.6L 4WD ????

Took off the oil pan today. It was a B**** to get the axle down but after taking the oil pan off, found pickup screen 80% clogged with tiny bits of plastic. The other plastic pieces we in the bottom of the pan, I assume they're the plastic guides from the chain tensioners. Looks like the...

How do I take the oil pan off 4.6L 4WD ????

Beautiful job dude !!! Just what I needed. I was stuck with the oil pan dangling in mid-air because it couldn't clear that axle housing. Now this makes perfect sense !!! Thanks again, so much !!!! Kudos. :leghump:

How do I take the oil pan off 4.6L 4WD ????

I know I probably have to drop the front differential, axle or both OR lift up the motor to get the oil pan off on my 4WD. Anyone have any luck with one or the other ? Any picture assisted guides out there which bolts to remove to get the oil pan off ? Great forum, glad I've found it.
