Apparently in 2015, Ford implemented an "Air Curtain" that redirects air around the wheels to improve MPG. Sort of an invisible wheel skirt...
Any engineering types know what this might actually involve and if possible to retrofit onto older expeditions

INTERESTING:
"below-headlight cutouts and wheel-well ducts are used to produce a "wall of high-speed air" that provides roughly the same effect (as wheel skirts), according to Ford." (26 mpg, highway)
"taillights designed to channel air in a way that reduces turbulence"
"flush-mounted windshield"
"The Ram has some aerodynamic aids of its own, such as active grille shutters and smooth under-body panels." (29mpg, highway)
