Hola folks,
I am wondering if anyone has installed the Raptor steering wheel with paddle shifter in their Expedition. I am thinking about making the move, but as always checking to see who has blazed the trail and have lessons learned.

Thank you in advance.

Question about paddles. Why? I've never understand the reasoning for them. They are completely unusable unless you are driving in a straight line. Do they really provide any improvement in vehicle operation, or is it a way to pretend you have a manual? I've played with them once in my 20 Passport and found them to be a royal pain in the ass. Besides, the tranny programming is not completely overwritten by using paddles, so what's the point. For those who might think I'm going off on paddle lovers, I'm not. I, ME, find no use for them.

I use the +/- buttons a lot in my Expy. Actually I use them all the time in traffic. In a red light, I usually press the - until I end up with 1 and 2 gears only, then I press the + button to shift to 3 and up. In heavy traffic I usually use only the lower 5 or 6 gears.
My reason: I don't like the 1-3 and 3-5 shifts with the factory programming. The 1-3 shift unnecessarily slips the clutches on the 3rd gear excessively for my liking. Also the 3-5 shift is pretty clunky. When you manually allow the shift, it doesn't slip the clutches and the shifts are much smoother since you do them at higher rpm.

On highway, I use them to downshift to 8 or 9 on uphills. The transmission sometimes is very reluctant to downshift on highways.

I am seriously considering the Raptor wheel since the paddle shifters will be much easier to use than the +/- buttons, but I always find another more urgent use for the $500 haha

probably habit plus the location of the -/+ button. I had the paddles shifter on my Q7 for 14 years and since I do a lot of mountain driving with a medium sized trailer using the paddles were very convenient and many times a blessing. My experience over the last 2 years with the Expedition in similar conditions is that the Expy constantly wants to go into a higher gear too quickly and I an always trying to find the -/+ button to down shift sometimes 2 gears. If you have ever towed a trailer on winding mountain roads, you will know that taking your hands off the steering wheel to reach for the -/+ buttons can be kinda scary.

My wife also really liked the paddles in the Q& when it was her turn at the wheel on our trips.

I am a function over style person and for the driving conditions that I am in 80% of the time, the paddles would be a huge improvement for me. The Expy is not my daily driver, so when I am in it, we are heading on a trip.
