That is the cam position sensor. Little surprised it runs normal and did not set a cel.
The motor has both a crank position sensor and cam position sensor. Apparantly it runs fine with just the crank sensor functioning... lol. They tell the pcm the relative position of the crankshaft and cam...
Samrider777 has done a solid axle swap. But his ride is custom built by himself. I don't recall seeing any others that have done a sas in this forum but there may be.

I realize this thread has just be revived but....
I believe the opposite to be true. With the internet and forums like these people tend to blame the cops first when plugs are a wear item, the gap grows over time and they can and will misfire or foul. In fact as the gap grows it puts more load...
I am thinking brakes are the most likely as well.
Maybe someone installed a deer whistle or similar as a joke...
You have not recently installed something that can disturb the aerodynamics or possibly interrupt the air flow have you??
Can you please locate me a 2000 - 02 rust free Expedition 4wd. Doesn't even have to run ..... just need a rust free frame/body in good condition.
:)
Could even provide you with a finders fee..
It not winter that causes it but salted wet roads. Nothing like spraying your vehicle with highly corrosive salt water or chemicals they use to treat the roads. And it doesn't exactly just rinse off either. It is location dependent because even in the snow belt different areas treat roads...
No idea...
Ford Expedition ELs for Sale in Long Island City, NY 11101 - AutoTrader.com
Fill in using your zip and as per your desire. Should give you an idea..... That's just what they are asking as well.
Thank you. :)
Was left in A4wd. It does activate the auto 4wd when I hit it from a dead stop. I have pulled fuse 104 and it will light up the rear tires everytime if I punch it. 2wd is no fun because you must 'pedal' it or basically feed into the throttle gently for traction.
I have never seen any published dyno sheets on factory stock expeditions. Does not mean they do not exist. Just have seen none myself.
Supercharged 1st gen dyno sheet at rear wheels.... :)
Unfortunately I did not lock it in 3rd gear in the tune so the dyno operator did not start feeding...
Wow!!
And I thought mine was bad!
I have not had any issues with my rocker panels. (yet)
My radiator support was severely rusted but mild in comparison to yours. Maybe I caught it in time. I also have a lot of rust on the undercarriage of the body itself. Frame..... minor...
Since its drive by wire, as in the pcm controls the throttle plate, no point in checking throttle body. There is no throttle cable so it would have to be in the pedal assembly itself.
No idea on cost.
Driving it with cylinder down will certainly throw air/fuel ratio off on that bank. Potential issue I could see is damage to the cats on that bank but I believe short term you would be fine. Not sure what oil buildup if any would occur in the cylinder due to it not firing...
I think I would rule out vacuum leak or engine if it does not occur below 25 mph or with change in throttle.
Brakes can certainly squeal. Bearings?? Possibly 4wd components or IWE's?? Windows up or down does it make a difference. Assume not but if so maybe weather stripping not sealing??
"rust sucks"
Yes it does!
There has been 1 or more members in here that have replaced the radiator support. If I can find it I will post link. At least the radiator supports are readily available...
I would check the radiator and condenser carefully for any obstructions.
At speed the fan does very little. If its after you slow could be a fan clutch. Shut engine down and try and spin fan by hand. If its hot there should be fair amount of drag and difficult to spin.
Fan clutch would be my...

I can tell you my 2000 5.4 expedition had no issues towing my 20' yamaha jet boat before any modifications. It towed very well full of gear and family. Very comfortable and happy with how it performs towing.
Can't really speak about the later models since my experience is with a 1st...
The throttle body has a coating on it to resist buildup. This is why the factory recommends not using any solvents. The way I look at it is if it is coated it is not working. You can try mild cleaner first if there is indeed buildup. Traditional carb cleaner is very strong solvent and will...
:welcome:
As far as rust I have used a combination of gemplers rust converter and Por 15 combined with a lot of scraping, shop vac, air compressor, rotary sander, etc.... It's a never ending and losing battle but it does slow its progress.
