I'll jump in here. Please dont pull the positive cable off a running vehicle to test the alternator. Because it spikes the electrical system, and if the alternator wasnt bad before. It probably is now. Use a volt meter. It probably is a bad alternator.
On to towing. Get a big trans cooler...
Okay, heres what you do. Its a little tricky, but it will tell you what trans you have with 100% accuracy. Now, go out to your truck and make sure its facing north. Then, take a quarter. Flip it in the air with your left hand. Only use your left hand. While its in the air toss some dust in the...
There are so many things that could be wrong. From the bag release valves to one of the solenoids, or leveling sensors. Its far cheaper and easier to do the coil swap. For the price of the compressor you can have the coils set up delivered to your door.
I changed the u-joints and the vibration is the same. Im thinking the rear axle is shot or i have a rear tire way out of balance...I've wondered if the transfer case is stuck in 4wd. Something I need to research more.
Personally I would set it to come on at 225 - 230deg. The motor will handle temps up to 235-240 deg. But you dont want to drive it that way normally. I dont want to really get into how I know that, but I guess if you read my electric fan write up, then you know how I know.
That was the reason I went with the volvo controller. You can control both fans independently. One is sourced to the A/C and the other to the temp switch. Let us know how long the hayden unit lasts. Ive heard mixed reviews.
I haven't pulled an 08 pan but on my 97 i have to use a 1/4" drive ratchet, long extension with a swivel and a 10mm socket. Then pray each time it doesn't snap my ratchet.
Here is the end to my thread. It ended up I put two torrington bearings in the wrong place. This tore up the pump and some other hard parts. As it sits right now. I have a transmission in boxes in my garage. I found a good trans from a 1999 and swapped it in. Re-pinned the connector and replaced...
I have a working transmission! Yay! Now I have a rumble and vibration from 45 - 75 mph or more and it sounds like the rear axle is giving up on me. This started three days before the trans went and I thought it was caused by the extension housing bolts backing out of the original trans. I had...
None really either way. But it did improve my towing comfort with the air conditioning running in the mountains on a hot summer day. That was important to me.
That's temp is usually 210-215 degrees. So a switch rated around there will work great. I sized my thermostat a little cooler to 185 deg. and sized the switch to match.
Thanks for reading. Sorry my sig doesnt show when I post from my phone apparently. I hope its helpful! The low side kick in temp for my 185 deg. Switch actually turns on at 190 deg. and then it shuts off at 175 deg.. You can buy different temp switches and I believe they will be within 5 degrees...
The reason I chose the Windstar fan is that it pulls 4100cfm. They are very available from most junk yards and are cheap. Plus they are a close fit to the expedition radiator if you checked out my electric fan conversion thread. If you haven't, it should be in my Sig.
Replacing a soft line like that is so much easier than trying to find a busted metal line half way down the system. That will look so much nicer since youre plastidipping those parts. Cool work, take a picture when you get it all cleaned up!
