I think I ended up using a flare wrench on the sensor nut, but it's been awhile. The wrench is fairly short & has a more acute angle than a standard wrench. I just remember there was very little choice in angle to get at it, though my pic makes it look fairly accessible.
Yours may have another T with a rubber cap. I think it's a test port, but any of the old soft parts could be leaking enough to cause the actuator under the dash to fail.
I can't speak to the 5.4 exactly, but I changed both on my 4.6L. I gave both sensors a good shot of PB Blaster before, then it was just a matter of finding the right angle to get the wrench on it. Thankfully the PB worked & it took very little to break the threads loose. The really hard part on...
My 2000 XLT suddenly wouldn't divert air to any choice but defrost last week. I'm always amazed when my mind skips over the most simple explanation & wants to make things more complicated. I spent several days researching the ways to repair or replace the front unit blend door or door...
My experience towing with a 4.6 really depends on which rear end it's paired with. My F150 has it paired with the 3.55 rear, like Scythe says above, never notice my trailer back there unless gross weight gets near the limit. My Expedition is a different story....has the 4.6 paired with the 3.31...
Welcome from TX.... I just joined myself, but I've had my 2000 since '05. I hope you enjoy yours like I have mine over the years. Great people & cargo hauler.
I drove the truck to our farm this weekend(about 200 mi round trip)with no problems, but I noticed today driving around town it has a missfire every few seconds sitting at traffic lights. I say missfire, but no service engine light so far.
Running like a champ. The only symptom I had was rough idle before a cleaned it, but I wonder if mileage on highway will improve a bit now that the EGR ports can actually pass some exhaust back into the manifold.
Spending all my spare time lately chasing a problem on my F150 has me feeling the Expy is being neglected, plus it's been idling pretty rough for several months. Then, I couldn't recall ever cleaning the Expy's throttle body.:Frustrated:
I had just completed the same job on the F150, so it went...
I've had the same thought for awhile, & even considered another gen-1 4x4(currently have a 2000 4x2)... if I couldn't bring myself to pay the price for a gen-3. I don't really need 4x4 anymore, but I still miss having it.
Part of the problem for me looking at 08 or 09 would be the bells &...
That was the strange thing, it was during a stretch of warm weather when it let go. Guess sometime past I did something like that to weaken the bond....
2000 XLT 4.6 4x2......In 2018 it overall averaged 15.3(best tank was 19.1, worst tank 12.6). I mostly drive it around Dallas tollroads, but sometimes to the farm(about 200 mi round trip). Not sure about all models in Gen-1, but the 2000 w/4.6 has a 3.31 rear end...terrible for towing, but great...
Last month I hit the window down button at the post office & heard a thunk, but the window stayed up. I could hear the regulator move up & down using the button after that but it was definitely no longer attached to the glass. The glass is not frozen or jammed, I can move it up & down by hand...
Time to replace control arms, lower ball joints, & maybe end links on my 2000 XLT. Anyone have negative experience with Moog parts? I will likely buy from Rockauto.
BTW, the sway bar end links & bushings started rattling a couple of years ago, so they're already done.
Jeff
I bought my 2000 Expedition back in '05, but only just started looking for a forum on the faithful Expy. My daily driving is actually split between this truck & my F150...same model, same drivetrain. The Expedition has a Windsor 4.6 & the pickup a Romeo engine.
It's been a reliable & very...
