2007 EL 2WD with 340,000+ miles. Did some looking around the forum about possibility going from 5W-20 to 5W-30, but wanted to get your opinions for my specific vehicle with the amount of miles the engine has.
I have used the 5W-20 ever since I got the vehicle with 90,000 miles. Would take it to...
Local Ford dealer has the valve body bridge seal in stock, so tomorrow I will drop the pan and remove the valve body to see if it's damaged. Are there any posts or videos on removing the valve body? Did a quick search and could not find anything (bolts to remove, torque spec, etc.), want to make...
Thanks for the pics, was able to read the part number on the bridge seal (7F401) and for my specific transmission the part number is 6L2Z-7F401-A.
Will see about removing the pan again and removing the valve body to see if it's broken.
Hi Atman, actually today it seems as the jerking when coming to a stop is now gone and doesn't occur - I believe the Lucas Oil fixed it and was going to post that update. The shudder I'm referring to is in the 40-50MPH range while accelerating. The transmission grinds for a few seconds then...
After adding the 24oz bottle of Lucas Oil Transmission Fix, there was no change throughout the day. I then removed 24oz of fluid from the transmission and added a second 24oz bottle of the Lucas Oil. Shuddering is still severe and there’s is no improvement.
Not sure what else to do except wait...
Also, since the Lucas is extremely thick, the easiest way to add it would be dropping the pan and adding it to the pan with some fluid. Otherwise, going through the small dipstick would be difficult.
So if I do it that way, with no improvement, I would have to drop the pan to replace with previous fluid and risk losing the Lucas that was just added. Would I then add another Lucas?
I did actually add both LubeGard ATF protectant and LubeGard Dr. Tranny.
I’m thinking of dropping the pan again and replacing the extracted fluid with the fluid I initially removed, since I haven’t disposed of it. Maybe adding another 2oz LubeGard Dr. Tranny.
Thoughts?
According to a service technician at my local Ford dealer, removing those 4 quarts and putting in new fluid (which is naturally thinner), would cause the shuddering and shifting to worsen.
It’s 2WD so no transfer case.
It could be other components, but I’m very confident it’s the transmission and specifically the torque converter.
Does the computer or something need to be reset? Not sure why replacing fluid and filter is now causing a worse shudder.
Fluid was low and needed a half a quart to get it into the full range. Unfortunately the shudder is still worse than before changing the fluid and filter.
Took it for a ride and the shudder is significantly worse. I'm thinking the fluid level is low, so I'll get it to temperature and check the dipstick tomorrow.
Did the fluid and filter change this morning. Only 4 quarts came out, so I added 4 quarts of Mercon SP. Will test drive, check dipstick level, and post an update soon.
Does anyone know how to properly change a shift solenoid in a 6R75 transmission? Do I need to remove the valve body and then take off the black plastic piece?
Agreed. Already planned on doing that next weekend (fluid, filter, magnet), but instead of a flush I’ll be replacing just the fluid (~7 quarts) that comes out with the pan dropped, since this fluid has hundreds of thousands of miles on it and a flush can damage the transmission.
You were right! Thank you
Checked the level at operating temp at idle - level is low. I’ll pick up a quart of Mercon SP today.
To save some time, does anyone know how much fluid I should add to get it into the full area?
