My '05 3 Valve plug changing experience.

The one piece Motorcrafts are for Tritons after 10/07. If you check with Motocraft, there will be no debate. Only one piece is Champion with a conventionale electrode, no strap. I just put SP-546 in, a they are still 2 piece, the tube below the thread with electrode strap and the thread, 9/16...

My '05 3 Valve plug changing experience.

Standard EMT conduit. Shrink tubing on outside 2/3 length of conduit. Plug tunnel is wider at top and tighter towards the plug. Conduit steadies the socket, especially on back two plugs where you need U joints for the impact gun to be at an angle. Stay with Motocraft. SP-546 is still two piece &...

My '05 3 Valve plug changing experience.

'Been stressing out over this one, reading everything I can, watching You Tubes and getting the Ford TSB. Finally did it, with 105 thousand miles and the engine starting to skip. My decision was to go with the hot engine, impact wrench method, which there are a number of YouTubes. I particularly...

    Expedition 6.2

Plus One on that. My first year Expy WAS relatively sound. Never had the spark plug issue because I fitted them myself by hand first, with anti-seize. Engines made in Romeo or Windsor differed slightly, more threads in one of those heads than the other, so another reason I might not of had the...

    Expedition 6.2

I tried asking this question months ago, but seemed to fall on deaf ears. One thing that might be true for a swap is that it actually may be slightly more compact that a 3 valve 5.4. That motor is bigger than an original 5.4 2 valve. I know, because I owned both and dealing with the exhaust...

    WNY Rust

I'm waiting. My pipe's ready to go. Bolts are eroded down to nothing. I'll replace with stainless bolts. Good luck with rust issues. POR 15 rocks! Sorry to responding late to your Black Mountain photo, MrSticker, I'm up by Bolton Landing & Schroon Lake all the time. I can appreciate that photo...

    Kuhmo's

I have Kuhmos on my '05 after reading somewhere that for year round mud & snows, they were the closest things to dedicated snows like Bridgestone Blizzacks. I'm used to having a set of those on smaller dia rims for the winter and a seperate set of longer wearing M&S performance tires for the...

    Anti Gotts Mod

I'm removing all the intake snorkel/silencer/aircleaner stuff from my '05 Expy to make it easy to replace the brake lines going into the ABS motor. Unlike first gen, my air cleaner element is on top of the engine, almost traditionally like it was back in the eighties with carbs and before CPU's...

Name that tune (I think it's the timing chain)

From what I've seen, the pan doesn't need to be dropped to change the pump on these engines, like on a SBC. I don't think my tensioner guides are that far gone yet. If there is any plastic material from the tensioners in the pan, it's not going anywhere if I don't have to drop it. Stephen

Name that tune (I think it's the timing chain)

So right now, if I do nothing else, will switching to 10W-30 from the factory recommended 20 weight help things along? This is a Ford TSB? Stephen

Name that tune (I think it's the timing chain)

So right now, if I do nothing else, just switching to 5W30 from the recommended 20 weight I've been using will help things along? This was a Ford TSB? Stephen

Name that tune (I think it's the timing chain)

That's interesting. Plus the Melling oil pump brings it to over $900 in parts. Still better than $1600 to have it done, and there you're not sure you're getting everything, like the oil pump etc. Pretty big piece of change when you're doing it yourself. Thanks for the link. Stephen

Name that tune (I think it's the timing chain)

I'd love to see a sticky that breaks it down to a shopping list of what you need to fix the problem. I have 90K on mine and ever since I owned it from 46K, it would occasionally have what I think was that wind up noise of the timing chain tightening as the tensioners extended out from the delay...

    WNY Rust

That happened to mine, up here near Saratoga Springs, NY. If you replace with factory hoses and plan on keeping for a long time, it'll just happen again. I replaced with 3/8 nickle/copper brake line, used my hydraulic brake flaring tool to make hose barbs and fitted oil resistant braided hose...

    Driver door doesn't latch

Having the same problem, I do the same as John Christopher, working my power door lock button up & down until it finally works. In my case, I found out the truck was in an accident with the first owner, who didn't know what a Carfax was. When I get to it, I'll bet the plastic sheeting under the...

    2V valve cover differences?

4.6 and 5.4 2V engines are essentially the same, except for the taller deck hight of the 5.4 block, do to it's longer stroke which is the only thing that makes it a 5.4. The differences in the engines, from what I've read, depends on where it was made. Either Windsor, Ontario or Romeo...

    rusted transmission cooling lines

I'll probably need that if I don't replace my rusted radiator support soon. Reading how it could collapse into fan. That's the tool I purchased. Couldn't find the link. I had a plastic one from Mac Tools at first and it was a POS.

    Separate Rear Hub Assy

You need to get a heavy slide hammer and attach a puller setup that looks like a flywheel puller with three fingers that you bolt to three of your lug studs. You can rent the whole setup at AutoZone free by leaving a credit card deposit if you have that store by you. I replaced both sides on my...

    rusted transmission cooling lines

I've been able to remove the fitting from the radiator to remove the rotted line, which wouldn't come out the conventional way using the plastic quick disconnect tool that I had at the time. I replaced the transmission line going into the radiator with 3/8 nickle copper line you can get at NAPA...

    Running Boards are terrible

Duh, that link.was for a Chevy, but you get the idea. A four door pickup power running board should easily adapt to an Expedition. Still a bit pricey, but not like that factory option package and what it would cost for a dealer to do it or even make the trade for the power runningboard equipped...

    Running Boards are terrible

Although I did not see one specifically for an Expedition, you may want to try having an aftermarket power runningboard installed by a fab shop. I see them for F150's like this: http://tinyurl.com/y82vxojb

Talk about being totally blown away

Aluminum tail hatch and hood of my '05 bubbling up here in central NY. One body shop I went to said they don't bother with it and just replace the hatch. WTF? @ one or two grand? You wonder why car insurance is so high. So I have to drive around in an otherwise presentable looking vehicle...

Rear wheel bearing/hub replacement - axle won't seat fully?

You should be good if you didn't disconnect the link from the upright, that is, if the BFH you were using didn't weigh a 100lbs. :-) There should be no need to remove upright when you do the other one if you get a good slap hammer, puller and use some heat. I thought I would never get the left...

Rear wheel bearing/hub replacement - axle won't seat fully?

Hope all the wailing with the BFH didn't contribute to the problem. When I did mine, all I needed was a slide hammer and a three prong puller attachment I rented from Autozone. Bolted it up to the hub . The left rear took a bit of persuasion and time to break free compared to the right side but...

    Rocker panel rot? 2008

What's a real concern from a safety point is the trailer hitch. Look underneath. On mine, the back of it, where you see the spare tire is completely blasted from being a natural scoop for the road water mixed with winter road salting. I could peel off thick layers. What's the tow limit on...
