    Reman’d 5.4L 2v installation

Progress today. Installed the headers. I’ve got some time at the end of this week and weekend, where I hope to completer the engine swap.

    Instrument Cluster

I had to replace my instrument cluster on my EB as well. The message center was INOP. From what I’ve seen, the older Fords are not able to be updated like the newer ones, for instance using ForeScan or FOCCCUS (Rusky hack software) like I used on my Focus’s instrument cluster when the IPC went...

    Reman’d 5.4L 2v installation

Thanks for the input Vince, and fair point. For the most part, the JBA headers will be the only significant mod to the otherwise stock 5.4 swap. Again, happy to document this engine swap for those interested on the forum.

ABS module codes and I’m stumped!

Thanks for the response. So far so good. All seems ok with the ABS issues. Next project, in the process of collecting all the “while I’m in there” parts for my new reman’d engine swap. That’s captured in another thread.

    Reman’d 5.4L 2v installation

I’m installing a reman’d 5.4 2v in my 2003 EB. I’ll capture the process in this thread for those that may be interested. I went with an AER engine retailed through Power Source. AER remanufactures engines for Ford dealers, so I figured it was a solid choice. Quick question: I’ll be going back...

2003 5.4 oil leak passenger side?

I’m familiar with the harness bracket (see pic). The original engine has 260k on the clock. Last thing I would want to do is pull the engine for the head jobs, just to have the engine crap out shortly thereafter.

The original owner 2004 Ford Expedition E.B 5.4. It is struggling to Accelerate and it's bad!! HELP!!!

An exhaust shop can test the back pressure on the cats to evaluate if they’re clogged.

2003 5.4 oil leak passenger side?

So I’ve decided to install a new engine. I’ll start another thread on that process.

Clogged cat? I had a similar issue and catalytic converter replacement was the solution.

    1997-2002 Expedition Radiator Support Replacement

That’s a great question! Looks like I’ll be replacing the engine on my ‘03 EB, and my radiator support bracket is toast too. So I’ll need to address it. But like you mentioned, if just the lower rusted out portion could be replaced - albeit with more than just spot welds - seems like a huge time...

2003 5.4 oil leak passenger side?

After careful inspection, the valve covers gaskets are confirmed good to go. The leak(s) are coming from the head gaskets. Not too excited about that - it would have been nice to pull the engine right out of the gates to do the plugs and COPs, intake manifold, valve cover gaskets, etc. I’m not...

2003 5.4 oil leak passenger side?

I did just finish with a thorough pressure washing of the underside with degreaser, and even got it up on ramps at the pressure washer. One of my friends gave me a dye kit, so I threw a vile of that into the oil. Drove it home - about 10 minutes, and see no signs of fresh oil, and picked up no...

2003 5.4 oil leak passenger side?

2003 EB 5.4 2v. Trying to hunt down an oil leak. Recently installed new intake manifold addressing other issues, and that was a success. Just spent 3 days meticulously installing new valve cover gaskets - both sides. Sad to say, that did not fix the oil leak. The starter has oil...

    Rattle Trap

Precisely. I sprayed the weep hole with spray silicone first, and the piping fed right in. There are some points in the weatherstripping where the piping will stop, and cannot be fed anymore. Then just find another weep hole slightly beyond where the piping stopped, and repeat the process of...

What to look for when buying a gen 2 expy

Several good videos on the YouTube for dropping the tank. No matter how you cut it, it doesn’t look fun. I noticed fuel on the ground the first time I topped-off the truck, so that’s on my checklist to do. Good luck.

    Rattle Trap

Possibly. But removing the weatherstripping literally takes about 15 seconds. Pop off the plastic door sill trim, and then just take off the weatherstripping from its channel.

    mileage/range

The same year and approximate mileage on my 5.4 2v. Plugs could improve fuel efficiency, as part of general maintenance and tune-up items - air filter, fuel filter, etc. If the COPs are bad, you will get codes such as cylinder # misfire. If the status of your plugs is unknown, you could pull one...

ABS module codes and I’m stumped!

Update - checked the CHT, it was connected and appeared sound. After driving the truck, clearing codes and scanning again, all seems well. While I wasn’t able to check each individual WSS with my scanner, it did register vehicle speed via live data. So I will call this issue resolved. Now just...

ABS module codes and I’m stumped!

Thank you sir! It will be Tuesday before I can get back to the truck. I’ll let you know what I see.

ABS module codes and I’m stumped!

Thanks for the quick response Hamfisted! Yes, it is drivable. I have already cleared the codes, particularly after the wheel bearing and WSS replacement, but those same codes appeared again. I don’t yet have ForScan…my brother is a Jedi with that program, I guess I’ll have to get smart on it...

ABS module codes and I’m stumped!

I recently purchased a 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer, 5.4. Quite the project truck, but I’ve been meticulously working through the write-ups to get her safe and reliable for an airport car. The remaining DTCs have me stumped, figured I would ask the collective group, to maybe point me in the...

    Rattle Trap

My recently procured 2003 EB was a rattle-trap like I’ve never heard before. And Ford knows it. Turns out there is a TSB that (under warranty) replaces all 4 door seals and all 4 door latches. Well that warranty ship sailed a long time ago. I researched the part numbers in the TSB, and it would...

    Issue with 2004 expedition 5.4

I had similar power loss issues with an ‘03 EB 5.4 that I recently bought. Cylinders 1 & 5 were misfiring. Replaced all 8 plugs and COPs. Fixed the misfiring, but still significant power loss. Replaced the intake manifold, and a few vacuum hoses that were shot. That gave me a chance as well...
