I got my hitch from a junkyard and for some reason I remember there being 8 bolt holes. I believe the hardware I got was 3/4", but don't quote me. Lock and flat washers are a must. I used grade 8 and I've towed a 7000lb trailer without any issues so far.
Honestly, I would say tighten your belt and spend the $145 for a new set on ebay. I put them on my expy this summer and have been happy with the decision. They are super thick and fit perfectly.

You need to take it in and have the pressure of the ac system checked. Just having freon isn't enough. It has to have the correct pressure in the system for the compressor clutch to engage.
WD-40 doesn't do the job nearly as well as PB Blaster will. There's also a product on the market called Knockerloose that works even better. We ended up with a can of that at work a year ago and it gets rusted shut parts free quickly.
