    99 expedition exhaust solution needed

A universal converter can be had pretty reasonable (less than 100 bucks). A factory replacement, however, it quite pricey. I've never seen a direct fit cat for these that didn't cost an arm and a leg. As far as just cutting it off: sure, you can do it, and it'll run fine, but it's against...

Final advice on gears and lockers

Personally, I would not tow with a locker for 2 reasons A) the stress on the drivetrain can get pretty severe while trying to turn with a trailer and a locked rear. B) trying to maneuver a trailer with a locker will be a PITA. I've owned locked, and even spooled, vehicles and locked rearends...

2000 xlt 200,000 miles bad trans worth fixing?

As someone who just pulled his transmission and rebuilt it (2000 EB 4x4) all i can say is you'd better have some kind of REAL sentimental connection to bother with that job!

    Confused about front suspension

The air-ride models have a light duty torsion bar that supports SOME of the weight, but not enough on its own. That's why a lot of the conversion kits to get rid of the air suspension come with a coilover front shock. Otherwise, the front will sag quite a bit by removing the air suspension.

    Strange Power Seat Problem

I have a 2000 EB and the power drivers seat, while it works, will only move forward/backwards for about 1-1.5 seconds and then will stop. You release the switch, push it again and it'll move for another 1-1.5 seconds; repeat until it's where you want it. With me being a long legged 6'0 and my...

Brakes VERY soft despite bleeding and new MC

After reading about a number of Expys/f150's with the exact same symptoms being caused by the abs pump itself, I removed the pump from the truck and just ran new hard lines to bypass it completely. I now have no abs but I really don't care about that anyway. The brakes feel great so I'm happy. I...

    01 expy Eddie Bauer lift

I see no reason why a driveshaft wouldn't take care of the issue. Cost is definitely not a fun part of that solution though. I'd love to see pics of your truck though and how you lifted the rear. I've debated a lot about whether to do the RC lift or a SAS. It would be cool to see what someone...

    Axle differences

You cannot just swap studs. Swapping axle shafts, maybe, but not just studs. Also, the larger studs use a slightly different center cap (lug cover) for the wheels so they don't interchange; I ran into this problem on my 2000. Besides measuring the studs themselves to see what you have, the...

Cranks but no start-fuel pump not coming on

Ok, just because I hate it when I search problems and the OP never bothers to post up a resolution, here's the resolution to my problem: I got the new PCM installed (bought it here: https://www.fs1inc.com/) and, of course, the PATS system was not happy with the change. Called in a locksmith and...

Cranks but no start-fuel pump not coming on

Grounds are fine and all wiring has been checked as good. I replaced the PCM and I'm just waiting on a chance to get a locksmith to reset the anti-theft system as it's a bit unhappy with my change.

Cranks but no start-fuel pump not coming on

The harness is fine. If I bypass the fuel pump relay (power the pump directly) the truck fires right up and runs fine. A continuity check shows the PCM is not grounding the fuel pump relay at first key turn (prime) or cranking. Everything else works as normal. I figured the PCM might require...

Do you trust your first gen?

In my experience, these trucks are VERY reliable IF they have been properly cared for. My 2000 has been VERY reliable, to the point that we have taken it on every vacation (up to 800mi away-one way) since we bought it, even though we have a nicer, newer, better on gas car we could take (but I...

    Where does the oil go?

It could easily be burning it. Catalytic converters will burn off a great deal of oil without showing the tell-tale blue smoke. 1.5qt between changes would annoy me but it's far cry from an alarming amount. Like has been said, check for signs of head gasket leaks or other sources of loss and...

Cranks but no start-fuel pump not coming on

Ordered a new PCM. hopefully this will solve the issue. I'm not one to throw parts at a problem but I'm really running out of possibilities as I have checked and double checked everything and the only thing I can figure is an intermittent problem in the PCM itself. It's just that, in my...

Brakes VERY soft despite bleeding and new MC

There's no signs of leakage anywhere. Of course that begs the question as to how to get the air out of that accursed ABS module. OR is it possible the module is bad and has an internal leak or something.

Cranks but no start-fuel pump not coming on

Even though I knew 100%, without a doubt, that the relay was good (bench tested it), swapping it out was one of the first tests I did. The problem is that the PCM is not grounding the relay trigger to turn on the pump. I checked it at key-on (should be on for like 2sec to prime) and cranking...

Brakes VERY soft despite bleeding and new MC

So I have a 2000 Expy 4wd, EB, 5.4 with some brake problems. The pedal is very soft and will sink to the floor. I've replaced the MC, bench bled that, checked all calipers (no leaks there) and bled the brakes EXTENSIVELY. Still no dice, the pedal just WILL NOT firm up and no matter what will...

Cranks but no start-fuel pump not coming on

So I bought a 2000 Expy to clean up and make a daily driver and it's giving me some serious headaches. It's a 2000 EB 4wd w/ the 5.4, just for reference. Occasionally, but not always, it will crank but not start. It seems to mostly do it when it's sat for a long period but it's hard to say for...

4R75E TC question. NEED HELP QUICK

I ended up guessing that I had the high stall and I was correct. Replacing the TC solved all of my tranny issues. Dropping the tranny ended up being a reasonably easy job. You'll want to clear a full day for it though. I have since sold the truck though as I felt it was just more trouble than...

4R75E TC question. NEED HELP QUICK

Quick question. I have an 05 Expy (4R75E trans) that I’m about to replace the torque converter in. There are basically 2 available locally; a ‘high stall’ and a ‘low stall’. Best I can find the ‘low stall’ is somewhere in the 1700-1900rpm range and the ‘high stall’ is more like 1900-2100. Just...

2003 Exp Steering knock over bumps

Check for play in the inner tie rods, which are hiding under the boot you have pictured. Any play in them will manifest itself as a clunk over bumps. The boot you have pictured does indeed come off. It's held on by a crimped band that will have to be cut off. Replace it after removal though as...

5.4 3V startup clatter- Root Cause???

Yup. I replaced every component in the timing and VVT systems; chains, crank sprocket, guides, tensioners, phasers, solenoids, everything. I made a pretty solid effort to make sure that I would not have to pull the front of that engine apart again (because it's a SUCKY job!) but I'm still...

5.4 3V startup clatter- Root Cause???

I was wondering if anyone has really tracked down the root cause of the all-to-common 5.4 startup clatter (if it can even be nailed down to just 1 cause). I have an 05 Expy and despite changing both cam phasers, both cam solenoids, the timing set and hydraulic tensioners, I STILL get that...

shudder / chatter at 40-45mph- TC problem?

So here’s the back story (warning, it's long winded!): I bought an 05 Expedition for a song because it needed some semi-serious work done. I’ve spent the better part of a month in the garage replacing a truckload of parts and it’s back on the road. It runs smooth and strong and we’ve been...

just bought an 05. Different COP question

I was there last winter (one of the harshest we've ever recorded) with my 00' Expy. As you well know, it sucks something awful! Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I was looking for.
