very touchy gas pedal. needs adjusting???

Replace steering column myself?
Apparently on an 05 Expy, when the gear selector breaks, the entire steering column has to be replaced. Is this a task that a normal joe can handle or is it too difficult? I got an estimate from the dealership of $600 for the install and $650 for the column. I found the column online for...- mcdoug90
