So I figured I would post up some info on my air ride to xlt suspension swap. I swapped the air ride torsion bars for some xlt bars and the front air ride shock with Rancho RS9000 4in lift shocks. Then I cranked up the bars and the front of the truck sits at 37 1/2 inches from fender to ground...
Here is my 99 expedition before and after removing the four corner air and doing torsion lift, 2in spacers, wheels and tires.
Got some junk yard black NASCAR wheels from an F150 and put some 285/70r17 BFGs on them.
I replaced the font/rear sway bar links and in the rear I drilled holes...
Yeah had to have mine aligned, got rid of most of the vibration I have in the front end..the rest I think is just my tires. As for the xlt bars when the junkyard pulled them they gave me the keys with them and they looked identical to the air ride keys. I ended up installing the xlt keys because...
I had 4 wheel air so the torsion bars had to be swapped out because they are weaker then xlt bars. If you only have rear air then you don’t need to swap them. I have my front set at 37 1/2 from the fender to the ground and rear is 37 1/2 also with 2in coil spacers. I kinda like the slightly...
Yeah I don’t think they are at too much of an angle. I figure I am at 1in torsion twist lift when compared to a stock xlt. But taking out my air ride and installing xlt bars and a twist gave me 2in over a air ride ex in the front. Once my family leaves from visiting us here in Washington I will...
Yeah I finished a couple days ago. I just swapped in xlt torsion bars in the front with Rancho 4in lift shocks and the rear is xlt springs with 2in spacers and Rancho 4in lift shocks also. I think i need to put a spacer on the front shocks because they might be a little short since I lifted the...
Completed the rear today and took a drive..with the Rancho 9000 shocks set at 7 the truck felt much better. No more floating feel and no more crazy lean in the corners.
So warning you now the torsion bars are a pain in the butt to swap out if it’s not rust free. It took me almost 6 hours split between two days to swap mine. For me it’s worth the trouble since I take my expedition off-roading. But the front is officially an xlt expedition set up and now I have...
So I am in the middle of converting my 4 wheel air ride to xlt torsion bars and springs. I got the front done and I got 3in lift give or take. But I will adjust it to match when I do the springs and spacers in the rear. What’s the max height you can go before it’s too much?
Currently my Right...
So the guy that has the 7700 torsion bars won’t return my calls so I picked up some expedition xlt torsion bars today. Maybe someday I will find a set.
From my understanding you have to leave the air ride switch on because it controls the steering. And for the light I’m not sure other then removing it. I’m about to convert my 99 expedition four wheel air ride over to xlt torsion bars and coils so if I figure it out I will let you know.
Yeah the calipers I bought from Advance Auto came with the new slide bolts and sleeves along with those metal brackets that the pads slide on and the brake hose copper looking washers.
Question to anyone who swapped the 7700 bars in. How does your expedition drive after installing them? I found a set on Craigslist and thinking about putting them in my expedition. Already got the extended shocks so I can lift mine up a little bit. I can’t wait to get rid of the air suspension.
So question for the people who use wheel spacers. I found a set of 5 18x9 fuel wheels with 34 inch all terrains on them for a really good price. The guy said they have a universal lug pattern so figured I would check them out. Problem is they have a 5x4.5 and a 5x5(127mm) lug pattern. They were...
I grew up in upstate New York I know all about the rust belt lol. I did think about removing the parking brake pads completely since my county in Washington doesn’t do inspections but I like having it just in case. Hopefully I don’t have anymore issues for a while.
Today I put new rotors on and the ones I got were the 12mm rotors. I forgot to compare them in the store to the 14mm ones. But I compared them to the ones on the truck and they were exactly the same except the old ones I could move them left/right and up/down a little bit and the new ones barely...
So I had a look at the brakes today. I can’t see it being the cables as they move freely and leave about a 1/4” play before pulling on the scissors. The rotors have a slight movement in them on the hub like they are not exactly huh centric. Maybe they are the wrong rotors? Also it looks like the...
I have a 99 EB 4x4 that I am about to rip the rear brakes apart for the like the 10th time. For some reason my rear brakes kept getting hot and dragging. I started with the parking brake and gave it a quick clean and grease job and adjustment. Seemed to work for 1-2 weeks. Happened again so I...
