SAME, I did exactly what the guy above did 1 year ago or 11k miles ago. I bought just about everything mechanical from NAPA and the hoses, belt, plugs and fluids from Advance Auto Parts. It cost me just under $2000, just think, even if you swap a motor you are still going to want to change...
I just did everything you are contemplating 2,000 miles ago and everything turned out great!
1.) Melling # M340
2.) Just replace it, $25.49 @ Advance Auto
3.) Torque alone will be fine, but threadlock will not hurt
4.) Napa timing kit comes with Crank sprocket so I just changed it, and...
I agree with Serp belt replacement and as for the rough idle? Prepare yourself, it could get really expensive, My 2006 Expy just had similar symptoms and it ended up being a bad timing chain tensioner which is like a $20 part but it takes a lot of labor to get to it. Regardless, please let...
Very Nerve Racking experience, I was really stressed and nervous the day I did the actual chain and sprocket replacement for fear of what happened to you.
I agree, and I'm quite sure its my imagination, but Man, It really seems to accelerate faster and have more power after this repair! I am...
Gentlemen, thanks for your help. In frustration I took the Expy to the Ford dealer where they found I had a cracked spark plug of all things! Yes it cost me $200+ but no telling how long or what I would have torn apart before finding that.
I tried the carb spray on all the hoses first and for the back one I sprayed the firewall to get as much back there as possible.
I used a Dutch Master and my lungs, not real scientific but I think it should have been enough.
I've checked all my connections and hoses and blew smoke into the manifold, I cannot find anything. I am however a little suspicious of a hard line on the driver side that follows the valve cover and then dips down between the engine and firewall. I cannot see or feel where that one terminates...
After the process of checking connections, I started it and got it to throw a code for cyl. 1 misfire. Not sure if it was existing or a result of my moving things around. I will change out the coil tomorrow am and report back.
After having the driver side tensioner fail at 135k, I just completed the replacement of my timing phasers, chains, tensioners, oil-pump, water pump, plugs, belts hoses ...... got it back up and running and seem to still have a timing issue, a very rough climb to 1500 rpm. Everything was done...
I just purchased my 2006 (125k) Expedition last Summer and was really pleased with it until the chain tensioner failed in Feb 2017. I have made the repair myself and replaced most other parts on the outside of the engine in hopes it will get me to 200K. Always looking for economical ideas on...
