2013 Expy with 133K miles stutters 35-40 and 55-60. I've had the problem for 3 yrs. Paid for recommended plug change, coil over change, 3 fuel injectors replaced. NO HELP! A retired mechanic told me about Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier 4oz. He said it was for differentials but would also...
NO NO NO. Don't go to all the work of replacing your struts and put FoMoCo's back in there. Not to be rude. But that is dumb and dumber! Nice photos though.
Plugs and coils are good suggestions. And the lead about inspecting the wiring harness along the top of the engine is really good advice. I did plugs and coils to solve a similar misfire and found the wiring had been chewed on by a squirrel. Unwrapped wiring harness and soldered wires to two...
Certified Pre Owned warranties are a good idea. You pay a little more up front to have the vehicle inspected and certified. If you don't buy CPO on a used car it's good to realize you'll probably need brakes and shocks for starters. And CPO's are normally covered by the store selling the...
There's some pretty good info here. This is a common problem I believe. We have an old 2013 with 112K and it does it too. So it's not just the 10 speed. Kinda like the computer can't decide whether to down gear or up shift. I understand it's also a problem on GM suv's. So I've chosen to ignore...
Over the past ten years I've used about $500+ dollars worth of Amsoil products to support a friend in the business. After he died I returned to good synthetics and have never looked back. Todays lubricants are one of the reasons we now get upwards of 200K miles on our cars before they give up...
Monroes come as a unit with the springs attached. Bilsteins sell you the strut less springs and require you, or you mechanic, to disassemble the unit. Your old springs are then installed on the new Bilsteins. Gonna share some YouTube that covers this. Ignore all the work the video shows to get...
If you're serious about putting better than original seats in your Expy I would strongly suggest looking at "Katzkin". We drive Expy's way over 100K and have done Katzkin on two of them. At a 165K we hated to sell last time because the seats were still so nice with about 65K on the. Leather, of...
If you're a wrench head shocks on an Espy are much simpler than getting rid of the parade float ride of the Aviator. But you guys sound like couch spuds so I'll suggest the Aviator. It's just a classy Expy. But I like the sport ride... JS
DO NOT USE GORILLA GLUE ON ANYTHING...., EXCEPT GORILLAS! It's is the worst glue on the market with the best Ad campaign. It's terrible stuff in all forms. You can thank me later!
Plugs are absolute. And with 200K I'd RnR the coil overs. Injectors could be snotty too. With low gas in tank run 2 or 3 injector cleaning juices. Look for any wiring trubs along top of engine where the coil over wires are. Look for wires chewed up by squirrels, etc. This is a REAL problem in...
Luv me some 5.4. If it has a good history oil changes I don't think you'll have a problem. Dirty conditions and running the oil too long kill phasers. JS
Nothing wrong with Monroes. Got'm. Point: Get rid of the stock shocks. They're terrible, unless you like driving a parade float! I've got Bilsteins on our Mustang GT. Like'm. But they're stiff and cost more labor to install than Monroes. If you're doing it yourself you have to manually take the...
I'm on my 3rd Expy and have had good service on all 3. I find everything offered to a customer in the dealers finance office offensive. If your reason for the purchase of a warranty is better sleep at night, you'd be better served by walking down the sleep aids isle at your local Walgreens...
Delighted to see your post! I advocate changing the plugs on the 5.4 sooner rather than later. Conditions vary so a hard rule is difficult to find. But generally if they're changed out under 90K miles the mileage AND performance is night and day different. BTW~That plastic "T" radiator...
Get over it! CHANGE THE PLUGS! If you wait to change plugs on a "coil over plug" Ford you're a fool. The longer you wait the more difficult it can be to remove them. If your vehicle has over 100K the gap is probably 3/32" or about .52+. You can do this! Purchase a set of 8 Motorcraft plugs and a...
Just had to rewire the passenger side of a 2013 5.4 because squirrels chewed it all up. Very difficult. I took me 3 days and many redos before we got it right. I feel for ya bro. The newer stuff just aint what it used to be. Very small wires doing very big jobs.
Purchase the new spark plug socket with a magnet in it. Really saves a lot of hassle. Do them one at a time. Blow out with compressor or shop vac on blow, not suck, after removing the coil over from the plug. I used a single shot of WD40 just for grins before engaging. I used 3/8 socket with 4"...
If they say FoMoCo, REPLACE. And upgrade to at least Monroe. Bilstein's if you like firm up and down. Monroe's eliminate most of the parade float but not all. Bisteins my fav.
OK. Forced to write gud stuff. We've had 3 Expy's. 97 Eddy B. 2003 Ed B. and a 2013 Tex Ranch. All bought new. 97 n 03 had 140+K at trade in. Current 13 has 105 and I'm expecting 4-5 mo years before trading. 03 had a bearing go covered by new car warranty. Keep'm serviced and enjoy. ALL American...
It's a nice ride but have never figured out why Ford® thinks we want a parade float suspension. I mean, come on boys. Installed bilsteins first year of ownership. Much better.
5K-6K blend oil change. Tire front to back/balance 10K to 12K. Every other change. Use blend and NEVER GO BACK TO THE DEALER! They're anal orifices. JS
Yes Bilsteins!!! Happy with our 13 Expy at 105K and original plugs. But had to go good shocks at 80K. Got tired of getting bounced off the road with that big parade float!
