Airbag light on 2004 Eddie Bauer

I didn't think to check for that. Neither of the readers I was using will check for SRS... OOPS! Thank you for that!! Let me get one ordered that will read the SRS module. Thank you!!

Airbag light on 2004 Eddie Bauer

Does anyone have some troubleshooting tricks on the airbag warning light on the dash? I tried a couple different OBD readers, and no DTC is getting triggered/logged. When I start the truck, the light flashes a few times and then turns solid. This happens whether someone is sitting in the...

Fuel tank leak on '04 Eddie Bauer

@Mota32gd I took it to a mechanic friend and he was able to get a "new" tank from O'Reilly for a decent price. In looking at my old one, it was not only leaking on the seals, but was visibly cracked on the top. All three of the entry points on the top were also cracked at the seals. Yeah...

2006 Expedition- Need help shops can't figure out the issue

From what I have been seeing, there are a lot of issues with the coil packs being just garbage the last couple of years. Swapping the coil packs around cylinder 3 and testing, is the best advice I can see. After that, the 2 valve is VERY well known for cam phaser issues as low as 30k miles...

Learning the Ropes with The 5.4 EB 2nd gen

Congrats on your "new" Expy. I have had 3 main issues within mine: 1. Fuel tank has three plastic ports on the top (including fuel pump) and it becomes very brittle with age. There are a people that have posted pictures and videos on how they resolved it. For mine, we had to source a...

Fuel tank leak on '04 Eddie Bauer

@texasscot That is Extremely helpful! Thank you!! Even after the replacement and a new pump, mine is still leaking. With your pictures, I feel much better about understanding what to do to "fix" it myself this time instead of paying another mechanic to do it wrong. :)

    Engine Won't Turn Over

On my 2004 EB, I had to completely rebuild the positive terminal on the battery to get it to reliably start. Evidently, it will get warm and loosen, and then acid will eat through it in a jiffy. Drove me nuts because all of the junkyard trucks I could find, had the same problem. Similar...

    2005 developed loud engine knock

Yup, that is scary. I noticed that ticking sound on our 2004 EB about a year ago. Having driven Hondas and Toyotas for YEARS, I dismissed that ticking. In the last few months, I noticed a discernable drop in power. We have only put about 6000mi in the past year, but are getting ready to be...

    Back up warning...

@Aspen03, I would check the wiring near the sensors in the back bumper, if you were worried about it. The harness back there, seems to be more prone to damage and false errors and if you are seeing it only during rain, kinda sounds like the wires are getting wet to me. ;) Heck, looking in the...

    Back up warning...

@Hamfisted, THANK YOU!!! It was just wild that the sensors (another part notorious for failing) were still working, but the silence was just weird. You ROCK!!

    Back up warning...

Hi All, question... I have seen a few posts about the backup sensors not working, and it is just a fuse for that. What about when the sensors are working...just not making any sound. For instance, when I have a trailer attached and put it in reverse, the radio goes silent as if it were trying...

2003 Eddie Bauer gas smell from back

I had the same issue.. Mine was MUCH more invasive, though. Park it on a downhill slope with the front of the truck facing downhill, make sure you have a full tank of gas. Look to see if you have gas dripping down. If you don't then, it is probably that vent hose, and it is clogged above...

    Check engine light on p0356

Yeah, mine required a Hard Clear from a mechanic to stay gone. Most of the OBD readers at Auto Parts stores only do a soft clear, from what I was told. Took mine to a mechanic friend at a shop, and he told me that and cleared the code for me for free and it has been gone for about 2000 miles.

    New to me 05 Expy

Thanks for the links, Ham. And thanks for the questions, Pastor. I am the 2nd owner of our 2004 Expy, and literally haven't done much more than change the oil on ours (AC Compressor and Gas tank replacement being the whole list). I hadn't thought much about the engine with the wear and tear...

    Should I Be Cheap?

I have only purchased a rebuilt A/C once...and it lasted about a month before it started putting shavings in the lines and caused a catastrophic failure. It was in an old Toyota MR2, which doesn't fully apply here...but I learned my lesson. I bit the bullet and paid the extra to get OEM on my...

Fuel tank leak on '04 Eddie Bauer

sadly, my issue was much worse than expected. They pulled the tank to check the seals, pump, and hoses...found that the tank itself had cracked where the seals of the pump touch. That was causing the gas cap light to come on because it wasn't maintaining pressure in the tank. I ended up...

    Aux Lights wiring

something to also keep in mind, the 2nd Gen Expy was notorious for the fog-/headlight harness being faulty. My 2004 has NEVER had working fog lights. Everything I read at the time of purchase (I am 2nd Owner), said that you had to pull the complete wiring harness for the lights from the fuse...

What's this bar for in the COP boot?

...and not to hijack the thread, but where did you get your COPs? I am seeing them online for roughly Direct-replacement and performance ones at $100 for the set, but I am also seeing OEMs for $40. I understand that OEM is similar to running to the local Auto Zone or O'Reilley's, but figured I...

PSI on tires - what do you run?

I run 38psi all around. When I ran 40psi on the rears, I ended up wearing the center of tire faster. Running at 36psi (rated on the door), I had issues with the colder months where it would drop down to 32psi and set off the TPI. I have learned on mine that new tires ALWAYS means new TPI...

What's this bar for in the COP boot?

Good question...and one I will be asking soon, I think. I need to give mine a tune-up, since it throws "Cyl x is rich" failures in the OBD. I am going to be replacing the COPs as part of the tune-up. My guess is that the bar is there to avoid kinks in the wire and to force it up out of the...

    Need More Chip Keys

Confirmed. I have an '04 Expy and I ordered the FOBs on Amazon a few years ago. Most Walmarts carry the Key with the chip inside and will cut them for free. I think I ended up paying $15 each, but I have 6 total keys and FOBs for mine. ;) Programming is SUPER simple.

Thank you!! Have you used this bumper previously? I ask because it appears that it is one solid piece, and the one I had originally was 2 pieces at a minimum.

    03 battery positive terminal

Mine in the '04 did the same thing, except the thin metal strip that goes around the terminal corroded completely off the harness. I ended up replacing it with a marine terminal as well, with the same thought process as Transporter. With the screw and bolt for everything to attach, it meant...

Missing under load 2nd Gen 5.4 Expedition

Hi JJ, what year is your Expedition? I have an 2004 Eddie Bauer with the 5.4L, and my max towing capacity is only 5000lbs. That aside, I would be checking air flow and potential vacuum leaks. If it isn't throwing any codes, that it isn't something that happens enough to trip the sensor. I...

    2003 Expedition Face Lift Begins

Yeah, last time I looked for a bumper cover, it was going to run me $750 without any hardware. At that price, I might as well order a steel one for about the same price and not have to worry at all. But thank you for the thought.
