CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

Update: 5000 miles on the rebuilt trans now, and it’s still shifting great. I’ve had a couple (literally 2 or 3) slightly delayed or slightly harsh 5th gear shifts but nothing like before, not concerning. Seems to be fixed. Love the vehicle.

Buying used 4th gen, possible problems like transmission, rear and front end, cam phasers

I’d buy the lowest mileage one you can afford, and put the Ford ESP Premium Care warranty on it and enjoy. Our 2018 had a fair numberof probs, the warranty covered them……mostly cam phasers and such around 75k. We ditched it for a new 22 Suburban which we absolutely HATED and traded back in...

CDF and Cam Phasers | 2018 Ltd 4x4

    1) it needs cam phasers. Get it in before 100k 2) it needs CDF replaced, take it in and complain, have them perform the TSB that was released summer and go thru the steps to get it replaced before 100k 3) seems high, call Harold Ziegler and get a quote from them.

CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

My trans is still shifting great after about 1000 miles. Once in awhile has a momentary hesitation on the 3–5 shift, only once and only when cold. Could definitely be related to VCT solenoids/cam phasers. Only have 42k on the clock and another 60k of warranty, so gonna keep an eye on it for...

    Shifting Issue

I just got mine back from a trans-rebuild, knock on wood but it seems to shift great now. Well worth the extended warranty price, for sure!~

CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

Got it back today. Work order is 3 pages long. "VERIFIED harsh shifting, no DTSCs present TSB 23-2250, reprogrammed Solenoid shift strategy, no change, overhauled Valve body (not sure if they did this but am glad I didn't have to make another service trip for it), shifting worse. Removed...

Auto Stop/Start *USED* to be disabled- Now it's back

My bet is the old battery was just weak enough that the auto stop/start didn’t function as I believe I read that was disabled if the voltage isn’t high enough. That fresh new battery messed ya over lol.

CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

Expedition is on the hoist, trans is out and half done, dealer isn’t sure if it’ll be ready by end of Friday or Monday, I told them I’d rather then take their time and do the job right, flush everything clean etc than to rush it. Should have it back early next week, will advise what all was...

In the market for an Expedition - what to watch for?

Buy as new as you can afford, and buy the Ford ESP extended warranty. None of these full-size rigs (GM, Jeep, Ford) is completely trouble free. We had a 22 Suburban and hated the poor visibility, and so we traded back into a 2019 Expedition Platinum Max (we had an 18 previously). We much...

    Shifting Issue

Take it in now and complain. There’s a TSB Take it in NOW and have them check the trans, reference TSB 23-2250. Follow the steps and get as much done before warranty expires as you can. Mine is under the knife as we speak at 41k miles getting a rebuild, under ESP extended warranty.

CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

All parts came in overnight except 1 bolt, dealer should have the trans torn down early next week, as soon as tech finishes the one he’s currently rebuilding. Crossing my fingers!

CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

My dealer didn't have a loaner either, even though I had requested one when I scheduled the appt online. I walked out to the used car sales manager who sold me the Expedition, and he grabbed a 2018 Fusion SE for me to drive. Its clean and gets me to work. My wife is now driving my 3/4 ton Ram...

CDF Failure - Dealer is Rebuilding Trans 2019 Expedition 41k miles

Took our 2019 Max Platinum in at about 38k miles for harsh shifting (primarily 3rd and 5th), huge pause when engaging 5th in the AM, in July. Have ESP warranty. Dealer used the TSB that was out at the time and re-flashed the trans. It was better for a day or two, then back to the same old...

Rear wiper linkage stuck - Part number / replacement video?

Funny enough you mention this...........my 2018 Platinum had this fail under ESP warranty in summer of 2022..............my 2019 had this fail a couple weeks ago. Dealer denied under ESP, I reminded them that they got this covered somehow on the 2018......... he called back and said they found...

Transmission Issues (Dropping RPMs -- Acceleration Lag)

So your trans was rebuilt in under 2 weeks? That’s not too bad considering some of the parts Backorder stories we’ve heard of late!

FORD ESP Warranty value (2022 limited SPP)

Shop around..........I got mine for $1600-1700 to 100k miles on a 2019. Harold Zeigler and a couple other places have great prices. The ESP is absolutely worth every penny

    2018 Limited Leather Seat wear

We had an 18 Platinum with stone interior that the seats still looked great when we traded it at 75k…..previous owners had had dogs in it. Current Platinum is a 19 with 30k, black seats look brand new.

    Moog front hubs any good?

Maybe it’s on Backorder bec Ford is updating the crap factory designed part that only lasts 30-40k miles?? That would be great if they were!

    1200 miles in 24 hours

Drove home yesterday. Left at 6:03am and got home at 12:54a this morning. 1261 miles, 18.4mpg average running 75-80 almost the entire way. Had 3 short stops for fuel and potty breaks. Love the car, it’s a heck of a road trip vehicle!

    2023 Tailgate issue

Funny enough, we just traded in a 2022 Chevy Suburban that had this exact same problem. Lots of complaints on the GM boards about it. Maybe they’re using the same gate lift motors lol :)

    1200 miles in 24 hours

Agreed. We stop when we’re tired. 18-19 hours is our limit with 2 drivers, but only if we start at 6am and drive until Midnight or 1-am. Any middle-of the night stuff is too tiring for us.
