Where are people finding Morimotos in the HB3 size (stupid choice on Ford's part, that)? I’ve looked on Amazon and on the Morimoto site and can’t find them.
Just ordered a Hellwig rear bar for my Max, as we experience the wobble and want it gone. I won’t do a front bar, because stiffening up the front will increase under steer.
Are upgraded links for the rear bar a necessity? If so, are there any links with heim joints? Wouldn’t be terribly hard...
With the dealer, at least there’s a chance they’ll use the correct fluid. Places like JiffyLube, not so much. I’d bet they have one “universal” tranny fluid for all makes & models.
It didn’t seem too different from other trans fluid changes I’ve done on modern-ish autos (not too many as I daily and prefer cars with three pedals). Sure, I wish it had a drain plug and a long dipstick & tube you could fill from the engine bay, but it’s not a bad or terribly hard job overall...
With my 180° tstat, I just drove for a little over 4 hours on hilly interstate, 75-80 mph. Tranny temp never went out of the 170°s. Not heavily loaded.

I just filled it from the degas bottle and squeezed the hoses until it wouldn’t take any more. Started it up and let it get to op temp. It sucked a bit more in from the degas bottle, and I then topped it up again. Been fine ever since.
I put in the 180° tstat myself. Took less than an hour, and the gallon of premixed coolant I bought at the dealer was enough to replace what was lost. My original (brass collar) tstat was sticking, causing temp spikes to over 235° on the highway, loaded but not towing. Temps are now normal and...
I bought a Ford trailer brake controller. The plug for it is not behind the coin holder but a little cubby, right of steering wheel and left of the center console.
I tried a generic oem-style one off Amazon, but it didn't work and caused a parasitic drain.
I also had to enable it with Forscan.
Just looked at the link you provided—I would not buy that thermostat. It’s got the brass tail piece, which on my original one would bind, causing temps to rise.
Looked in my Amazon history, and there it was. Part number is RT1258, $24.
Yes. Original is a brass piece. Comparing the two before I installed the new one, I noticed the plastic tail piece slid smoothly. The brass piece would bind sometimes. Not sure if that was causing my higher temps (and warning on dash), but it makes sense.
Changed out the atf with my son today. Took a bit longer than anticipated, but that’s ok.
Truck has 71k on it, and not all shifts were great. A lag going into 8th like all the time. Some hard engagement of D or R, and also sometimes a delay when switching between D and R.

I bought the gasket separate. My original one (was sticking closed) was 195*. Replaced it with 180*. I was under the impression that it had a 190*, so I figured ten degrees cooler would help but not be too different.
That said, I am totally happy with the 180*.
Not sure if my 2020 is different, but oil change was a breeze.

Got the new t stat in today. Could not for the life of my find the petcock on the rad, so I just let all the coolant come out when I pulled the t stat.

Did not get a chance to install the new t stat before the camping trip with the rain. Driving up to the campground, me and three middle schoolers in the car with gear and towing a 10’ box pop up trailer, I was watching the temps. It’s a 70 mile trip, so 1 1/2 hours.
Kept speed around 70-75...
Hmm. About to change my tranny fluid, and I watched the Ford Tech Makuloco video on it. He says the gasket is totally reusable, lasts the life of the tranny.
Sure it’s not the cooler seals? Those he said need to be replaced.
New 180* t stat should be coming today. Next Wednesday I tow my smaller pop up camper up north for a trip. I’ll monitor the trans temp since I don’t have the numerical display of coolant temp above the bar.
I forgot to add that I checked the trans temp when I saw the near-overheat happen, and the tranny was at 210*, which seems normal, and indicates to me that I wasn’t working the truck too hard.
