Car is an 03' Expy EB

Came home late last night and when i parked the car in the driveway and put the gear in "P" it felt kinda sloppy but i thought nothing of it until i shut off the car, my driveway has a slope and the car starts to roll forward after i shut the engine off. I hold the brake to stop the car, i let up slowly and it starts to roll again, so i try to restart the car to try to put it in park again and it wont restart!! I realized my reverse lights are still on even though my gear selector shows that its "P", the car is actually stuck in "R" which is the reason it wont allow me to restart the car as well...so now what?? I have no "Park" gear and im on a slope in my driveway with no way to keep the car from rolling, meanwhile im losing brakes since there is no engine vacuum to the brake booster. I wake up my 10 year old son to go get some bricks or some wood to chock up the tires, meanwhile my 5 year old daughter is still sound asleep and my wife is awake but is in panic mode!! My son brings some bricks and i can release my foot off the brake pedal but i have a Not-So-Good feeling about having bricks as the only method of stopping my car from rolling down overnight, so we put our stuff away and i head back outside and I thougth to put the car in "N" and it started up. In Reverse and Drive the car moves fine, I just dont have "P"...Well after fiddling with it for 5 minutes, it starts to lose "R" & "N" as well. I have no choice but to trust the bricks at this point and just go to sleep and wait until tomorrow... Early morning i tear into the steering column and see the gear selector linkages look fine but there isnt that notchy feeling when you select the gears up & down, it feels smooth all the way from "P" to "D" now...so its progressively getting worse. Id imagine that the notchy feeling that im looking for comes from whatever the cable is attached to, so my question is, where does this cable go to? i see it go to the floor board but have no idea where it goes after that? I was going to get under the car to see the cable but it starts raining :( Im just glad we got out of it unharmed and my family is safe. So my question for now is... where does this cable lead to?

check trans linkage, im not too sure im not a mechanic. crawl under the truck and have someone shift the trans, make sure vehicle is off! might be buildup of dirt and debris near linkage or cable.

Check all the brake light and ignition related fuses.

Also ... down by the brake pedal is a sensor that tells it when your
pedal is pushed in. If this is broken then it won't let you shift at all.

Good luck!

Well it turned out to be the cable itself, not sure if the heat from the exhaust manifold caused it but it does sit about 3 inches from it... new one is already installed but i think im gonna wrap some foil around it for some added heat protection
