Let me start by saying I don't know much about cars, so I always take my cars in for service. I just had all 8 plugs and coils changed on my 05 Expedition. It has stopped misfiring and running rough at idle, but now has no power.. Also, the mpg used to read around 15.1, now is stating I am getting 9.5.. Obviously, not what I expected... Is this normal? Does it sound like the shop I took it to change the coils and plugs have done something wrong?

A good friend who I've known for 37 years and trust, owns a garage, he told me that when you change plugs and coils you should also change the wires too. He said it's worth the cost of the wires to insure that it runs right. If you aren't getting a hot enough spark you might not be getting complete combustion but that doesn't seem likely.

If you are referring to the message center mileage if they disconnected the battery it will reset the computer. The computer averages the mileage over the last 500 miles driven if reset, it starts at 9.5 MPG if I remember correctly. It will have to build back up. Take it on a highway trip and it should come up pretty fast.

Take it back to them and have them check out the power issue.

Thank You, Andy... I appreciate the info about message center mileage. I will run it for 500 miles and manually check mpg as well. When they hooked up their computer it showed that I had 4 bad coils. I told them to replace all 8. They agreed that it was the best option. They said the wires looked fine. Do you have any thoughts on what could be the cause of the loss of power? I wish I knew a mechanic that I trusted...

What brand of plugs were used? These motors can be moody as to what goes in them. Motorcraft and Autolite seem to be the best options. Do you have a check engine light on?

I just thought of something else to look at. Check the fuel filter, because a plugged filter will act like it has no power. Also check for a blocked air intake - just a thought.

The Guy bumped, broke or forgot to plug SOMETHING back in. The back passenger side is hairy to get too and Ill bet a MILLION dollars SOMETHING is leaking vaccume, broke or not plugged back in. If it all started when you did this it is directly related for sure. Go back and COMPLAIN make then stand up for their work. It is an easy job that should be done by yourself in my opinion. I own a shop and we are HONEST and careful and GOOD but man oh man you should see the GARBAGE work We get in here form Peoples "TRUSTED MECHANICS" lol. Good luck.

Thank you all for your help... I would have to assume that the plugs were Motorcraft, since I had the work done at the local Ford dealership.. I never had a check engine light on, but when they hooked it up to their computer they said that I had 4 coils malfunctioning and suggested changing all 8 coils and plugs.. So, that is what they did. I dropped it off Saturday morning and got it back on Thursday. Unfortunately, do to the fact that my hands are listening to me anymore, I can't do the work myself. I will check the filters, but it seems kind of suspicious that when i drove it to the dealer with 4 bad coils it had more power off the line than when I left with 8 new coils and plugs.

Dont waste your time GO RIGHT BACkK to the STEALERSHIP (Why ANYONE goes to a STEALERSHIP for anything outside of Warranty issues is far beyond my own comprehension levels) and tell them to fix it period.

I went there for 2 reasons. First, I don't know a good mechanic and second, the service adviser misquoted the cost to replace all 8 plugs and coils. Of course, I made them honor the low quoted price. They were not happy, hence the reason I am on here getting advice as to what is wrong before I go back to be told that nothing is wrong. The quotes i got for the same job were astronomically different...
