Setting up gears can be tedious, because there is a lot of trial and error to get the gear mesh pattern correct. There are a couple of variables, (pinion depth and the side to side adjustment of the ring gear) that need to be set just right, otherwise the gears can be noisy and/or wear out quickly. You'll need a press because the pinion bearing needs to be pressed on (perhaps a few times as you change shims) You'll also need a good torque wrench, a dial indicator with a magnetic base, gear marking compound, and other regular hand tools.

I can see now that I should have bought the OTHER Expedition that was for sale then and paid the extra grand. Oh well live and learn.
