New to the forum, but not to Fords. Have owned over 100 in my life and currently have about 20. Mostly trucks and Broncos, even had a couple Centurions. Picked up a 1998 4x4 EB a few days ago for my wife as the Excursion is "too big" for her now. I did some research and figured an earlier Expedition would be best for me as we live in a rural area and use 4wd frequently. Also between the mud, dust, and dogs it seems all the newfangled options don't last long for us. Anyway, I was wondering how the air suspension on this rig is supposed to work if it is functioning correctly. It seems that info on the system is pretty hard to come by. The suspension light is not on unless I shut the switch off, but the rig seems to ride very "bouncy", and in the front the suspension is sitting on the bump stops. Is this normal? I have looked into the air suspension delete kits and may very well end up going that route, but I would rather not spend time and money if it doesn't change anything. Keep in mind that everything we currently drive has straight axles and leaf springs at all 4 corners so I could be over reacting. Any input is appreciated. Thanks- Scott

That's about 90 more Fords than I've owned and my 1999 EB is 2wd but maybe this will be useful...

The air suspension system is automatic, the only manual control is the switch you found. Air pressure comes from a compressor located front right below the wiper fluid tank. It's not very quiet and you can hear and feel it when it turns on, which will usually happen shortly after ignition. If the compressor isn't working or the system isn't holding pressure, the suspension will settle to its lowest possible height.
