I believe I have found the culprit to the 2-1 bump shift on the 2007-2008 expeditions and navigators that use the zf 6hp26 transmission. It seems the mechatronic sleeves crack/wear and it causes the issue. The main sleeve/ seal and the 4 other tubular seals should cost under $100 and are fairly easy to change when you drop the pan.

The issue is that I cannot find the parts to replace them. BMW uses the same transmission in a large number of vehicles and I am thinking the parts will be the same but I am not sure. Does anyone have access to these parts or know of a shop that would? [IMG]

Thank you Stamp. I am able to find the parts for other vehicles as you posted. The main issue is finding anything saying it's compatible with my Lincoln. I assume it is since they should be the same transmission. Just trying to make sure I have the correct parts when I drop the pan! That pan gasket looks identical to the one Ford sells for $55-80. Good deal at this website for $25!

The parts I used l worked great but it didn't fix the 2-1 bump. From what I read it's gotta be the solenoids themselves.

Are you aware of the Transmission Control Module software "recalibration" Ford recommended via a TSB (not a recall, not free) back in 2007? If so, was your truck updated?

I'll post the contents of the TSB below:

    *****************************
    TSB

    07-23-6

    * HESITATION AFTER TIP-IN FROM A STOP/BUMP WHILE BRAKING TO A STOP BELOW 10 MPH (16 KM/H)

    Publication Date: November 8, 2007

    FORD:

    2007-2008 Expedition

This article supersedes TSB 07-14-2 to update the Service Procedure and vehicle model years. ISSUE:

Some 2007 Expedition vehicles may exhibit a hesitation upon tip-in after braking to a stop and/or a bump while braking to a stop below 10 MPH (16 Km/h). This TSB fixes the bump while braking to a stop and reduces the incidence of tip-in hesitation when accelerating from a stop. Some 2008 Expedition vehicles may exhibit a bump feeling while braking to a stop below 10 MPH (16 Km/h). This TSB fixes the bump while braking to a stop issue.

    ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

NOTE: SOME TIP-IN HESITATION IS NORMAL ON THIS TRANSMISSION IN ORDER TO PROVIDE SMOOTH OPERATION.

    SERVICE PROCEDURE

The calibration update will help to improve this condition on 2007 vehicles. 2008 vehicles already have this feature incorporated. The harsh bump while braking to a stop will be eliminated. Several days of driving is required for the transmission to fully adapt.

NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE THE MECHATRONIC UNIT. MECHATRONIC REPAIR/REPLACEMENT IS NOT AUTHORIZED FOR THIS ISSUE.

    1. Install IDS/PDS or equivalent and ID the vehicle.
    2. Update the PCM/TCM calibration using IDS release 51.8 and higher or 52.1 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2007.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com . Since the TCM cannot be independently reprogrammed, reprogram the PCM to ensure that engine and transmission calibrations are updated to the latest level simultaneously.
    3. Clear TCM keep alive memory (KAM) and adaptive tables.
    1. Using IDS:
    1. Open Toolbox.
    2. Choose Powertrain.
    3. Choose Reset KAM.
    4. Then Choose TCM.
    2. Using PDS:
    1. Choose all Tests and Calibrations.
    2. Scroll down the menu and choose reset TCM KAM.

NOTE: FOR PDS, RESET TCM KAM IS NOT THE SAME AS CLEAR TRANSMISSION ADAPTIVE TABLES, WHICH IS UNDER THE POWERTRAIN - TRANSMISSION MENU TREE.

NOTE: UNHOOKING THE BATTERY WILL NOT CLEAR THE TCM KAM.

NOTE: DO NOT CLEAR THE PCM KAM.
    4. Verify that the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) PID is above 175° F (80° C). If it is not at 175° F (80° C), drive unit approximately 3 miles (5 Km) to reach temperature.

NOTE: TFT MUST BE AT 175° F (80° C) OR ABOVE BEFORE PROCEEDING TO STEP 5.

    5. Drive unit to perform adaptive shift strategy learn:
    1. Accelerate from rest with light throttle. The 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shifts must occur at engine speeds between 1300-1800 RPM.
    2. Continue to accelerate gently to 50 MPH (80 Km/h) so that the transmission shifts into 6th gear.
    3. Brake gently to a complete stop and hold foot on brake for at least 15 seconds.
    4. Repeat Steps (a-c) a total of five (5) times.

    WARRANTY STATUS:

Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage
IMPORTANT: Warranty coverage limits/policies are not altered by a TSB. Warranty coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part.

    OPERATION DESCRIPTION TIME
072306A 2007-2008 Expedition: Check Diagnostic Trouble Codes, Reprogram The PCM And TCM, Includes Time To Clear KAM And Perform Road Tests (Do Not Use With 12650D) 0.9 Hr.

Early gators had the ZF tranny though... Expeditions should just have the unupdated Ford 6R75 no?

Btw, OP, I hear it's *mostly* compatible with Ford 6R75/6R80 parts
