I just purchased a 2000 Expedition that sat 2 years outside and 3 years inside. I dont think its been started in all that time. my initial idea was to part it out, but it only has 74k on the clock and from what i can tell looks in really great shape (the garage its in has no space, they had to take the rear bumber off to close the garage door so i havent been able to take a close look but for 500.00 i couldnt pass it up) According to the VIN its 5.4 and 4WD.
So my question is what do you recommend me to to see if i can get it running. should i see if i can turn the motor over with a breaker bar to make sure its not froze up? I figured i would need to purge to fuel tank and lines and replace the fuel filter. Should i try and pull the plugs (I have a 02 F150 with the 4.6 and the plugs are a real joy, cant image what the 5.4 is like)

Ill take any advice and suggestions

Thanks

Craig

I would check the fluids and make sure they are good and then charge battery and see if it starts.... also check to make sure the brakes are free and no seized up... but for that price it is a steal of a vehicle

Well just a quick update.

It took a miracle to get it out of this tiny garage, get it moved down a narrow one way street and towed down a large hill to get it to a place i could get a roll back too.

The good. No rust on the body except a few tiny spots on the real wheel wells. does turn over, gets oil pressure and all the fluids look good. needs a cleaning inside and out.

The bad: No fuel pressure, cant hear the pump running and when i check the tank was bone dry, checked the relays and the kick panel switch. pretty sure the fuel pump is dead, I have a new one just need to drop the tank and change it, has a fender rub on the front of each rear wheel well from when it got stored, nothing major to fix. 82K on the clock. ill take some pics today and post

Be careful with all your seals. Cuz they can dry up and crack. But nice though deal :)

Tank is down, fuel pump has been swaped tank is ready for reinstall.

I am hoping if the weather holds i can put the tank in and see if it will start, then ill let it warm up slow and see what happens. lots of surface rust underneath but it looks managable

I hate to be Captain Hindsight here, but I would have thrown some oil in to each of the spark plug holes and then cranked it for the first time. I also would have changed out all the fluids, before I tried to run it. I would put high mileage oil in it to help recondition the seals.
