Background: I have a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer eddition, 5.4l. It came with the factory light duty tow package. It has the brake controler plug in under the dash. The rear harness has the 7 wires plug, but came with the 4 wire adapter. I am wanting to add a brake controler and upgrade the 4 pin rear harness to a 7 pin rear harness. I also want to avoid having to splice wires together.

Questions:

The Ford parts list shows that the factory 7 pin harness for the 2000 F-150 and the 2000 Expedition are the identical part number. Why then do all the aftermarket 7 pin adapters that fit the F-150 say they won't fit the Expedition? What is different?

Will the "Tow Ready 118242 7-Way Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness" work on my Expedition?

Any advice on the best way to get my end results would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

As an update, Itried the 118242 harness and it was the right plug, but the wires didn't match, so i guess Ford parts is wrong. The 7-pin harness from a F-150 is not the same for the Expedition. Was able to use the original 4-pin harness and splice the brake contriler wires in.

Did the same thing recently to my rig. Glad I found a 7-pin plug on an Expy at the junk yard right off the bat, would have been pissed when I got home if I pulled one off an F-150! As it was I was pissed that I did not have the 12v power relay for the breakaway battery, had to spend money at NAPA for something that would have been free at the junk yard, dammit.

I did pull a tranny cooler off an F-150 (no Super Duty ones to be found), at least that was plug and play.

I went ahead an soldered in the four wire plug to the seven, since I really hate not having an adapter when I need one. Made a mounting plate out of some sheet metal, now both plugs sit side by side for easy use!
