Hey, I'm new to the forum and new to the expedition. I'm looking at doing a tune up but I have a few questions.

1. What problems do I need to be careful of when changing the plugs?
2. What plugs and wires do you suggest?

Thanks for your help.

Off hand, you do not need to worry about the plug issue common to the 3 value Tritons.. I am assuming you have a 5.4L 2V..

Wires? there are no wires... The Coil on Plugs mounts directly on the plugs..

Before removing the COPs.. I would suggest that you blow off all the dirt and crud around the boots before removing the COPs keeping the area clean..

And it is a 5.4 with around 145k miles. It runs great I just have been noticing the gas mileage has fallen off pretty good and I know everything on it is original.

are these your original plugs?
would suspect if they are the originals that new ones will make a tremendous difference. ensure you gap them correctly. as far as cops, they too will degrade over time. you can ohm them out to see if they are still in the useable range, ultimately your call.
I would also recommend for diy tuneup going back to the air cleaner and change it, perhaps cleaning the maf too; replace the fuel filter. at some point in time, your egr will also fail. don't forget the pcv valve, thermostat, and those little emissions pieces (dpfe for example.)

sure others will chime in.

Awesome. I haven't even though about doing any of those other things. Do you happen to know where I could find the gap for the plugs? Or what manual I could use?

Also what brand of plugs would yall suggest?

I would recommend sticking with the Motorcraft plugs. The gap is .052-.056 and you will generally find that they are pre-gapped from the factory. You can also find Motorcraft fuel filters at your local Advance Auto if you have one nearby.

ford workshop manual on DVD can be obtained from seller "morpheousking" on e-bay cost about $10.00 much better than Clymer or Chilton and also includes wiring diagrams

I got my Cops and sparkplugs of ebay. I got motorcraft sparkplugs from a seller named tedalco all 8 sparkplugs for about $35. I got my Cops from freeshiping_autoparts for about $70. Had them for 2 years and so far so good.

I wouldn't use any anti seize on the plugs due to the issues with plugs blowing out. Do torque them to spec. The plugs do come gapped but check just to make sure. They are dropped and bounced around alot after leaving the factory.
