Hi all. I've read through a lot of the threads on here and I hope to get some help on my issue.

Problem: Rear A/C not working. Blows warm air.

Actions attempted: I followed some of the great advice on these forums and thought that my problem was the rear damper door motor (the damper door changes air flow from the ceiling vents to the floor vents and vice versa). That is working fine.

Then I checked the blend door actuator (thanks to ELVATO for the thread on how to take the quarter panel off). I took the actuator out, still connected, and changed the temperature setting (both front and rear)...the pin rotated. I also tried this with a new actuator and got same result. In addition I opened the actuator and all the gears were in good condition. (over kill but I'm desperate at this point to find the problem...)

Then I put a screw driver into the D shaped hole that the actuator goes into. I could turn it and feel the door inside opening and closing. The only difference I noted is that when twisted up...the air coming out of vents felt like heat. When I twisted the door down, it was cooler air. Not A/C'd air, but cooler than heat.

Any idea what I'm missing? Wondering if I need refrigerant. Not sure if this is the case because the front A/C works perfectly. Is it possible that the rear A/C needs refrigerant?

Any input / advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

I have the same issue but I have no power at the rear unit. The rear fan runs but the AC unit is quiet...

Eric,

Let me know if you've found anything. I'm going to take it all apart again this weekend. I may just replace the actuator (for sanity sake).

Also considering taking it in to a dealership in hopes of getting them to diagnose it. I also have a Chevy Tahoe where the front A/C was not blowing air. Took it into dealership and they wanted $300 to replace a blower module. Found the part online for $100 and literally took me 4 minutes to replace it. Saved $200.

If I find anything I'll post on here also.

tks

The problem for my Expedition turned out to be the Expansion Valve. It is a block shaped part the located near the rear fan.

In order to replace it you have to evacuate the refrigerant from your system, replace the expansion valve, then re-charge. I ended up paying a local guy to do this as I don't have the tools or skill to mess with the refrigerant.

Hope this helps someone in the future!!!
