2003 Transfer Case Front Seal Leak

Hi,
I have a leak from the TC on my 2003 Expy. I've checked and it doesn't appear to be the vent hose. I believe that it's the front output shaft seal. I see that the case has to be split to change the seal, my question is:

Has anyone been able to split the TC without removing from the truck and replace the seal or does the whole TC need to come out?
