I have a 2005 EB with the factory changer, no NAV system, no overhead TV/DVD. So I took the first step in upgrading my system and changed out my door speakers. The speakers I took out of the front doors were 2 ways and the rear doors were full range. I put in some 2 way Kenwood's I like thinking they would work will with the factory sub. When I try adjusting the fader, I get little high range from the rear speakers as if they are being limited by a cross-over. Does anyone know how the factory head unit/Amp works? I know the speakers are fine and sound better than stock up front, but just don't like to sound when I try to adjust the front and rear fade.

Next question. In a few months when budget allows, I plan on upgrading the factory head unit with either a DNX9980 or a DNX9990 (if enough bugs are fixed). I was hoping to use the factory amp and sub. Will I have this same fader issue? My concern is that any cross-over is happening at the factory amp and not at the head unit. I don't want to spend the time and money getting my new head unit in only to have to redo it with a new amp.

Thanks in advance for all responses.

I had the same sort of problem with my 99 Chrysler Concorde with the factory Infinity system. I had already replaced the factory head unit with an Alpine one before I installed the Alpine highs, when I tested them I couldn't really tune them and the only sound I was getting was extremely muffled. I worked at Best Buy at the time so I talked to one of the installers and they informed me that I needed to locate and bypass the factory amp, once I did that everything worked perfectly, they had full sound and I could adjust the fade, balance, bass, treble etc. I'm not 100% sure if they still do this or not but the installers printed me out an amp bypass wiring diagram with very well detailed instructions, it was a life saver cuz I would never have been able to figure it out on my own. I put the factory head unit back in when I sold the car and everything still worked fine.I hope this helps with your situation, good luck.

Just an fyi the reason I needed the bypass diagram so much was because the wires going into the amp were not the same color coming out going to the speakers so it got a little confusing. It was typical Chrysler BS, not sure if Fords are at all the same way, again good luck with the install.

So does this mean that I will need to replace the factory amp if I get a new head unit? I am still unsure if the cross over is happening in the amp or the head unit.

Thanks in advance for your help.

you wont need to replace the amp...i've changed my HU in 2007 in my 2004 EB...never had any issues...with the right harness and instructions from the install there shouldnt be any change or need for a change...i took it a step further...before i swap'd my HU...i ran my inverter off the rear sub amp to give my 1000 rms amp for my 2-12's...no issues...THEN i swap'd HU...THEN years later i connected the amp correctly directly to the HU
