Do the lights go out after a few seconds?

Do you have the transmission in Neutral when selecting 4LO?

How many miles on the truck?

Truck has 80,000. To my knowledge the transfer case hasn't been touched, but I've only own for a couple years and aprox 20k miles.

I haven't tried it in nuetral, but as I recall it wasn't necessary, just had to be at a stop....

yeah, lights come on then go out after a bit at start up. High range works good.

Neutral is needed.

My 2006 will lock out the shift from 4HI to 4LO if it isn't in neutral!

+1 to Mindgame for the fluid swap too!

Wearing my dunce cap with pride this morning. Seems I was confused about the proper procedure for engaging the low range. Thank you all for helping me out, may all your repairs be this expensive!
