I purchased a used 2007 Ford Expedition from a local Ford dealer. Since I purchased it I have had a few problems related to the brakes, the engine running smoothly, and the 4 wheel drive operation. I have had most of the problems resolved at my expense. The problem that I am experiencing with the 4 wheel drive operation has yet to be resolved. The problem I am having is when the vehicle is in 4 wheel drive low it will not pull itself up an incline that every other 4 wheel drive vehicle, that we own, has no problem with. It seems as though the front wheels are engaging but the rear wheels are not working to assist with the climb. In the particular area we are having problems the front end slides to the passenger side, on a slope that has a significant drop off on both sides of the road, when you are accelerating and the rear wheels don't appear to be doing anything. (Upon further testing, I found that the passenger rear wheel was digging a hole and the driver side rear was not doing anything) The problem has occurred with at least 2 different drivers that had not talked to each other about the issue. When I tried the same climb, I experienced the same result. What is really frustrating is that on the way to this short fairly steep climb there is a 30+ degree climb that is approximately 3/4 mile long. This vehicle has no problem making that climb in loose gravel or a beaten path.

We purchased this vehicle to be used when needed to access communications sites located on mountain tops as well as normal day to day driving.

The last time I took the vehicle to the dealer and explained the problem they were very nice and kept the vehicle for a few days to check it out. When I called to find out what they found they told me that they couldn't find any problem. They contacted what they called a hotline and the hotline told them that since the computer had not given them any trouble codes, "that it is likely that this is an operational characteristic of the vehicle relative to the conditions the vehicle was subjected to and no repair attempts should be made to correct this characteristic." I don't agree!

This vehicle not performing to reasonable expectations has caused a significant safety issue for the person driving it when used in the 4 wheel drive for climbing somewhat steep grades. Any ideas?
