Good day. I recently encountered an interesting dilemma regarding replacement of one of my running board motors. Not willing to spend the approximate $1K for the Ford OEM part, I found a decent replacement on Amazon for about a third the cost. Yeah me!
When the part arrived I was instantly struck by the fact that instead of receiving the right side motor assembly (passenger side in the USA), I got a left side assembly. Panic! However, we discovered that the left side motor fits on the right side and works as advertised!
Now before everyone has vapors - I live in heavy snow country and historically he board motors take a beating, they nest very close to the rear of the front wheel wheels and encounter, wet, salt, and snow in prodigeous amounts every winter. By swapping the motors (at least on the right side - haven't done the left yet) it moves the motor behind the hinge, and further back under the car. In my mind this is a good thing.
Anyone else tried this approach to replacing the expensive and fragile motors on their SUV?
