2009 Expedition started itself no remote starter in it, while it was in my garage. Thank God I was awake. I was able to get in it and put the key in it and turn it on and then off.

I'd say you do actually have a remote starter, maybe just don't have the proper key FOB to run it? Either that or maybe insert the "Twilight" show song here...

Are there little antenna things sticking out to the sides near your rear view mirror? On mine (2013) I believe those are the antennas for the remote start. Just curious if you have them. That may indicate you actually do have remote start as Jamo said.

Second time Update: I have a 2009 Ford expedition Eddie Bauer. Once it started by itself in our garage, it does not have a remote starter. They replaced the ignition 6 months ago and tonight it started by itself again. Has anybody else had that kind of problem?

As others have said, look for the antenna shown in pic #1 somewhere on the windshield. If you have one, you have remote start. Also, on 2014 and older gen 3 trucks, the FOB for remote start is not part of the key which has all the other functions on it. It is a separate FOB that is shown in picture #2 below. If you purchased the vehicle used, the second FOB probably got lost somewhere in the shuffle and you did not receive it.

GlennSullivan is that second key fob called a My key or something like that? Because I've been thinking mine might have remote start but I didn't realize that it was a separate key fob. I do have the option to set up a My key or something like that (it's been a minute since I went through the setup display on my truck)

Evidently, there are multiple versions of this Ford OEM remote start system, some with the separate FOB, which I pictured above, some with a different version of the separate FOB and some with the RS integrated on the key. I have a 2011 and had a 2014 and both have this same model separate FOB and both were dealer installed.

I have the install document that covers a number of dealer installed versions. If you PM me your email, I'll send it to you.
