Expedition has 95k miles took to dealer due to check engine light on. Dealer replaced plugs, fuel filter, mass air sensor, (tune up). Took home and noticed engine shutting off after shifting into gear from cold start. Also lost 4 - 5 (used to get 16 in city and 18-20 on highway) mpg city driving and highway driving after tune up. Took vehicle back to dealer who replaced the transmission computer (described to me)...same problem after repair with no improvement. Took back to dealer for 15 days where dealer replaced torque converter, several pids (sensor points) and finally removed computer software and reset computer. Said the computer was sensing 49% ethanol at startup then computer flooding engine with gas causing shutdown. Said the computer now senses 9.8% ethanol and engineer should run fine. Had back from shop three days and have engine shutting down on cold start when shifting into gear and horrible gas mileage. Have any of you experienced this or similar? Any suggestions for repair?

After numerous trips to the dealership they were able to fix the engine shutting off on cold start when shifting into gear. They said they had to completely restore the computer software similar to reloading the software on a computer. The fuel mileage is still between 11-13 city and 13-15 on the highway...far less than before the tuneup. Ford customer service said there isn't anything further they can do.

Interesting. The MPGs - are you getting that from the computer, or have you done your own calculations? What you describe for City is what I get with my '01 EL. I get better HWY though.

This is from the computer. I haven't checked it manually yet.

I agree. Check it by hand when you can.

I usually get 11-15 in commute and up to an indicated 22 (!) out of my 07 EL 4x4. Of course the "22 mpg" was actually something like ~20 mpg by hand. Temperature can make a big difference too. When it was very cold here I was closer to 12 mpg commuting. Warmer weather and do gain noticeable MPG.

I think the MPG is based on the "learned" driving habits so if its had a new reflash of the computer, it may not be very accurate at all.
