2009 XL with 85K miles- is there a timing chain on these?

if it was 2004 or older I would even say MORE NO!!

Yours has cam phasers and vvt and all that higher maintenance stuff but by 09 they were getting better. You will know when you have to give it attention.
You will bet timing error check engine light codes and it will rattle like a diesel near driver side wheelwell over tire.

The timing chain, gears, cam etc used to be the life of the engine in modular fords until they went with vvt 05 and up. Now a decent percentage of them do have to have chain, gears, tensioners, guides, vvt solenoids, phasers replaced and it's usually around 110-125k but that depends a lot on oil changes, full synthetic or not, keeping oil level up to full, and maybe some luck too.
