Been reading this site for awhile. This is my first post. My wife has a 2011 Expedition XLT 4x4 that we bought new last Feb. It has apprx 22k on it. This evening, I got a call from her that it had quit runninhe g and her, my mother in law and 3 year old daughter were stranded on a busy road in 97 degree heat. We had just picked it up from the dealer a few hours earlier, as they had just changed the oil. I hooked up my trailer and went out to pick them up with my truck.
Once I arrived, I verified that it had gas by looking at the gauge and shaking the truck and listening for fuel slosh. I then had my wife cycle the ignition key and I heard the fuel pump run. When I tried to start it several times, it would crank for the normal length of time in a normal manner before firing up and surging to 1500 rpm which is normal for it. it then would rapidly lose rpm and die in a matter of 2 seconds, like it was losing fuel or spark. At that point I winched it up on the trailer. Once I got home, I tried to start it again and it fired right up and ran on the trailer for a half hour with no issues
My wife said that it seemed real sluggish when she picked it up from thr dealer and then cleared up. It would not respond to any accelerator imput when I was trying to start it on the side of the road, but it seems fine now. I hooked up my scanner and no codes were stored, and no freeze data either.
My concern is that the dealer will not be able to duplicate the problem on monday since no data seems to have been stored. Are there any known issues with late model 5.4's, throttle bodies, fuel pumps, etc.
