New to the forum mainly because this is my wife's vehicle and I haven't had a chance to start changing things on it yet. I have stuck to my F150 mainly. I want to start with hers now though. We are fixing to get a new camper and I'm looking at the towing rating at 6,000 LBs. What would be the best things to change out to get me to a towing capacity of 6,500 or 7,000? I know that there is something that I can do because the optional 5.4l can tow 9,200lbs. Thanks.

No I wanted one with the towing package but the price was too good to pass up on it.

One thing I would suggest would be to take it to a Ford dealer and get a quote for them to upgrade the expy to the heavy duty tow package. Get a breakdown of the parts required. Then check for aftermarket parts and compare the two figures. Keep in mind the dealer is going to have labor charges as you won't if you do it yourself The dealer most likely will give you a warranty whereas you may not have any warranty by doing the work yourself.

There was a thread awhile about where someone did what was suggested above and in the end he let the dealer do upgrade The savings for him to do everything wasn't all that great. Plus he figured he was getting Ford parts and warranty.

It is only a 4 pin. But I don't mind installing the 7 pin and a trailer brake unit in the truck. I say that but I haven't priced them yet. Oh well it would be a good idea anyway.

yeah I just looked and found the brake control and the 7 pin connector that I will get. Thanks. I'm still curious at how to get the towing capacity up form 6,000 lbs. I'm upgraded suspension and some heavy duty sway bars to start with. The camper my wife wants to get weights in at 6,500 lbs. So if I can get it to around 7,000 lbs capacity I would be happy. Thoughts

I'm having trouble finding heavy duty bump stops and larger sway bars for my '12. I guess I could try and see and go from there. I was just talking to a co worker about the trans cooler. My F150 has the trans cooler but I have not checked my Expy yet. What is a good aftermarket brand on that? Also does anyone else agree with the suspensions comment? I would like to get more than one opinion. I just like to do my due diligence before I jump on a path. Thanks :)

O1YELLERCOBRA. If I pissed you off I'm sorry. I am taking your original comment and keeping them in mind, even though you changed what all that they said to so pissed off I don't want to help anyone. I'm the type of person that is going to try and get as many view points as I can and then make and educated decision. And I thank everyone for there help.

Roxy1225. I was thinking about calling the ford dealership and asking about that package but I didn't know how they would feel if I didn't go with them on it. Thanks. That is what my wife was pushing me to do as well.

Also I have a weight distribution hitch if I can talk my mother-in-law out of it since she doesn't have a camper any more. Also I was looking at B&M trans coolers thanks.

Google search it bro! Needs a different radiator, trans oil cooler, 3.73 rear, seven pin, and brake controller!
