2015 XLT with 122,000 miles.
Backup camera became intermittently inoperable a couple weeks ago and now it’s permanently disabled….
Has anyone experienced same and resolved the problem short of heading to the stealership?
Thanks!

Just found a few other threads with my aforementioned problem plus two more problems…
This is the first I’ve read anything about the “APIM” which apparently controls Sync, Backup Camera and USB…
So…….
Three weeks ago during a road trip the USB stopped charging voltage output… a couple days later I realized that the SYNC Bluetooth stopped working, and now the Backup Camera has died…
So, having read a bit about this “APIM” I guess I should suspect it as the central problem with all three malfunctions?
Interestingly, I jumped through factory rest hoops for nearly an hour just to get my iPhone paired with SYNC. After what seemed to be a dozen tries I finally got a different response from SYNC that a factory reset had taken place and subsequently I was able to pair my iPhone with SYNC…
So I guess I should suspect that this APIM is the culprit?
Another contributor with a similar problem and thread stated that he was able to use a salvage APIM out of a Fusion…

All things said, with the multitude of Gen 4 problems I’ve seen in this forum I’m happy that so far this has been my only problem other than not getting the EcoBeast into a dealer for the HVAC fan recall.

If anyone can add their ideas and or resolutions I’d appreciate it big time.

THE FIX....
I have a 2015 Ford Expedition XLT with ~190K miles. My backup camera has had issues since the time I purchased it brand new. Ford replaced the camera four times but still had the very same intermittant issue - actually only worked ten or twelve times throughout each year. Just within the last couple of months, the truck began to have other issues - the remote start would rarely work, the truck would lose power, the rear liftgate would occasionally not work - just beep, didn't want to start at times, etc. Well, an experienced Ford mechanic told me that, considering all of the intermittant issues, he thought it was all related to a bad Transmission Control Module. Transmission Lead frame, Transmission Control Module Connector (AL32-7G276-D), FT188 Screen Asy (BL3Z-7A098-A) and gasket (BL3Z-7A191-C) have all been replaced. All issues have been resolved with those replacements. Backup camera works every time now - NEVER HAS BEFORE. Remote start works again, etc. Transmission had to be opened so not cheap. All in, I was charged $1,905.82.

BTW, my USB and map card located in the center console stopped working a few years ago. That is not the reason for backup camera issues.

We have a backup camera issue, and on a prior Expy, we had transmission issues. Dear Lord, how could those be related. ATXN—you scare me!

Well…
I miss my backup camera but not $1,900 worth of missing..
But thanks for the transmission module info.
The only electronics problems I’ve had are the backup camera and an occasional Bluetooth loss that’s remedied by plugging my iPhone into the USB console port, selecting an audio output on the phone while the head unit is successfully connected with the phone then unplugging the phone cycling the head unit off and on again and the BT Bluetooth selection appears again.. and subsequently pairs again automatically..
But:
I received a recall from Ford for the backup camera nearly three years ago and the recall is still active in the NHTSA recall listings for my Expedition but…….
Ford STILL says that they don’t have replacement parts yet.
After THREE YEARS?!?
I’d replace the camera itself if I knew positively that the camera alone is the problem and not the whatever module living in the console.
Nothing kills faith in a brand like a manufacturer ignoring a recall for years.
And I’ve been buying Fords (not necessarily exclusively) primarily since my 1967 Fairlane GTA S Code bought my senior HS year in 1973.
Does anyone have experience with this recall being remedied by Ford?
