My wife has a 2017 Lincoln navigator.

It has the auto control HVAC system much like my expedition.

This summer, we noticed that when the air-conditioning was on, it would just keep cooling regardless of the setting temperature until the evaporator froze over. Then you could run it on vent with the air-conditioning off until it thawed out and repeat the cycle all over again, this even happened while we were in Las Vegas in July.

Of course, the dealership was unable to re-create the problem

The winner, we have noticed that the heat does not like to blow hot except with the temperature on the high setting, at any other temperature setting or on automatic it just blows the temperature air from outside.

Lincoln diagnose this as an evaporator temperature sensor issue and apparently you cannot buy that part without buying the entire evaporator assembly including the plastic surrounding and the temp sensor comes with it. That was gonna be over $3000 for installation.

After doing some Google work, I figured out that the same temp sensor is in other Ford trucks and was able to order that sensor by itself and plugged in it’s replacement.

It did not fix the issue, but I did discover that the heat now works correctly if you unplug the sensor, whether that is the one they said needed replaced or the brand new one.

The air-conditioning does not work with the sensor unplugged, but when the new one is plugged in, it still does the runway cooling and will not stop no matter what you set it up.

Has anyone else run into something like this?

I’m going to take it back to Lincoln and show them the issue and see what they say

Replaced the evaporator temperature sensor myself by opening the evaporator box behind the dash and plastic welding the opening shut. Disconnected the battery and everything works fine.

So we have a 2017 Expedition Limited. We are having lovely warm weather here in upstate NY (NOT). We have noticed that only cold air comes out of vents even after warming up and the temperature is set to the 70s or higher, and AC was off. At one point warm/hot air was coming out of the vents. The vehicle was stopped and shut off, then started and cold air returned. I made a post earlier to find out if anyone else had experienced this.
