2017 Platinum Purchase Question

Hi everyone. I'm looking at purchasing a certified 2017 Platinum. It has factory 20" rims instead of the 22" that come standard with the Platinum. I'm guessing that this was preferred by the original buyer due to better selection of snow & A/T tires but that's purely a guess.

I've seen others for sale with the same style wheels though I haven't found them on a 2017 Expedition or F-150 brochure which is odd.

I'm wondering if there is any big trade-off I should be considering with the 20s instead of 22s. I'd prefer the 22s for look, but not a deal-breaker for me.

Also, the CCD would still be standard on the vehicle as a Platinum even though it was configured with 20s, right?

Although the 2017 literature & propaganda suggests the 22's and CCD were standard on Platinums, it does appear plenty of 2017 Platinums carried-over the 2016 20's. I'd be skeptical the 2017's with 20's actually have CCD.

I believe the only way to know if it has CCD for sure is to navigate the left menu via steering wheel arrows, toggle down to settings, OK, then see if "Driver Select Suspension" is selectable or not. Sport/Normal/Comfort are the settings. Has to be done with the vehicle running IIRC.

If it has 20’s from the factory it DOES NOT have CCD. If it has 22’s from the factory it has CCD. You could not have one without the other for 15-17’s from the factory.

Like FLEX said, I also have seen a bunch of 17 Platinum’s with the 20’s. Dealers had the option of 22/CCD delete, but the option was “Standard”.

Can CCD delete be undone? If the hardware is in place and this is simply part of the ECU, it's a real shame to be under utilizing its capabilities like this.

CCD cannot be "undone" but, don't worry, you aren't stuck with 22-inch wheels if your truck came with them and CCD. A few Navigators have CCD and 20-inch wheels. It appears Ford always packaged CCD and 22's on the Expedition but you can still put smaller wheels on your truck as long as the overall tire diameter stays the same.

In fact, for 2015-17, Expeditions came with either 18, 20, or 22 inch wheels. All three had different tires such that the overall outside tire diameter was the same. This means the wheel sizes are interchangeable.

As for a 2017 Platinum *without* CCD, it will have 2015-style 20-inch wheels. Many of these trucks were ordered with self-leveling rear suspension. That is not compatible with CCD, so when it's ordered the CCD option is "deleted" even though it was supposed to be standard equipment on Platinums for 2017. Many such trucks were ordered as "fleet" vehicles where the CCD/22-inch wheel package was not desired in order to save money.

I confirmed with the dealer that it does not have the CCD. Ultimately, I'm not sure how much I "should" care, but I would definitely prefer 22s and CCD to 20s and no-CCD, so I'm glad you all were able to help me get to the answer!

Doesnt matter

Plenty of Expedition/F150 wheels in 20" size. Should probably ride better and last longer than 22"s

If you want 4WD, better confirm that it has it...just because it's a platinum, does not mean it automatically gets 4wd!
