Two things, agree with so many of you. But these days, everyone is doing everything they can to appeal to the millennials and younger. I too look at these things and think fragile, if it were nested in the dash and enclosed, that might help a little. I think of all of the things I do in cars sometimes and how likely I would be to damage the pod. Things like reaching across and behind me to deal with kids, etc. Or putting 16' long pieces of lumber in the car, etc. And then this thought, for those of you that enjoy trying CyanLabs to update Sync3, not sure I would be comfortable doing that in the new one, if you even can (the word is you may not be able to do forscan, etc. in the new ones). But seriously, with out old school buttons, you couldn't use anything if that screen is down.

And don't get me wrong, I'm a technologist by trade, so I love tech, but everything has a place. Wonder how responsive the big ol' screen will be when the temps drop below 0, lol.

That huge screen is hideous. There is no logical reason for one that large. About the size of an iPad would be plenty. The same thing is making me pause on a Mach-e - waiting for the next design update that changes that design.

Ford finally found a design element that would stop me from buying another Expedition- having had 2 of them.

I'm so disappointed.

Gotta agree. The mustang is even worse. It’s not even jammed into the dash like the ‘22 expy. Who knew there could be even LESS design integration.

Drivers are supposed to be looking at the road and driving. Not staring at an Android tablet glued to the dash, and fumbling with a touch screen.

Tactile knobs and buttons are the correct ergonomics. Designers are drinking the Kool Aide that cars will become self driving.

I’m not mad at it, the dial in the middle is weird but I’m sure it serves a purpose. I see a lot of people doing the ‘Tesla style’ infotainment upgrades and some of those look cool. I would likely miss the tactile buttons, it is nice to be able to adjust stuff by touch. For whatever reason I really hate talking to my tech, I’ll use it to call someone while driving but I don’t understand asking Siri to look something up that I’m perfectly capable of typing out myself and my skin crawls when I hear and/or see people bleed out ‘hey Siri’ or whatever the droid and google equivalent is.

Is the production model getting that HUGE "STOP" button on top of the dashboard? If so I want one!

It shows the level of trust the engineers have in their own software!

It’s a long way from the days you knew you where in a fancy car because it had an analog clock in it.

Has anyone heard any of the other features coming to the 2022? Wondering if it will have the Ford Co-Pilot Active 2.0 package that is being introduced with the Mach-e and upcoming F150. That system is hands free driving, Ford's answer to Super Cruise.

Outside of pictures, theres been no words on what the refresh will bring. The 2021 f150 is a good place to start but since most all new features are more utility based, the only features I can see being added from it are b&o unleashed system, powerboost hybrid for ltd and platinum, and hands free driving tech as you mentioned. Things they should add they may show from other ford products are ventilated 2nd row seats, air springs, sec row sun shades, rear view mirror digital monitor, and heads up display.

I'm just hoping for a rear suspension upgrade to take away the dinosaur aged rear suspension technology that makes all passengers bobble heads. And the HO 3.5L and I'd look at one. If not, I'll run mine into the ground.

I know some people hate it but I’m a big fan of two screens instead of one very large. My MDX had two. It was nice to have CarPlay going and still be able to change out temp controls / hvac and know exactly where to find all of those functions at all time.

The Range Rover Sport also has two and they do a great job of making it look really classy. Lower more tilted wide screen closer to the shifter for more driver based functions and hvac (they also include the two temperature knobs and a few bottoms) then radio on the top screen where CarPlay also resides. Overall really well put together and doesn’t look like they’re just trying to copy Tesla like Ford is. Bigger isn’t always better. Separate them and their functions!

+1 Rovers integration of knobs into the screens is very very well done.

Their software needs an update but their execution and integration is great.

In our 2014 MKT they went to essentially screen input only. Buttons are there for fan speed and radio volume only with a couple others for basic HVAC functions. No seat heaters or cooling, no heated steering wheel etc. Its super annoying and at the time when we got the vehicle we didn't mind it, but soon after I was annoyed. Luckily it is my wife's DD and not mine :). That being said, if the MKT didn't have a solid build (this one anyway) with very little if anything wrong we probably would have dumped it.

Fast forward to 2022 Expy and if they keep the same mind set with no redundant knobs or controls, then it might be a problem as evidenced by the plethora of posts on it ITT.

Finally, I totally agree that slapping a vertical screen with little integration is poor execution. Caddy has done it well TBH.

Like I stated before, mach e is getting rave reviews, and that includes the interface of that tablet you guys are scared of. Im sure after a yr of real worldLike I stated before, mach e is getting rave reviews, and that includes the interface of that tablet you guys are scared of. Im actually excited about the refreshed expy because both the f150 and mach e are being praised, and the new expy is taking the best parts of both in terms of tech. Im sure after a yr of real world feedback, they would add updates to make the interfaces work better in the expy. Im sure ford didnt put it in and ignore the base that mainly buys product without making some compromises. However, about the reliability? feedback, they would add updates to make it work better in the expy. Im sure ford didnt put it in and ignore the base that mainly buys it without making some compromises.
