In my 2022 Limited the horn partially went out. It used to sound powerful, and now it sounds like a clown car horn. I read that it has 2 horns, and one of them clearly is not working. I asked the dealership to take a look, and they said it will be $600 for a new horn assembly and labor because it has power getting to it and it is in a difficult location to replace it. Why or how does a horn go bad in only owning a vehicle for 2.5 years? I have owned it since it came from the factory, I am the only driver so it was not used when we purchased the vehicle. I don't understand how a horn can just quit working when it isn't that old. Anyone else have this issue?

Simply put- they dont make em like they used to...

I have the exact same issue with my horn sounding weak, like a high pitch circus horn. Dealer said they wont replace under warranty until it fully dies and makes no noise.

This repair would also require the dealer to remove the front bumper cover and grill.

Electro-mechanical stuff breaks. If you are mechanically inclined, buy the horn assembly and install it.

You stated you've owned it for 2.5 years - is it past the 36,000 mile new-car warranty?

The members on this forum with 4th generation Expedition models with repeated transmission and engine issues, and coolant leaks would probably trade those troubles for a bad horn.

Hey Tara:
Yep, these horns are pretty cheaply made, unlike the old 60'-70's horns that you could lay on for hours at a time for a wedding, etc. It seems to me that your horns should be under the Ford Factory Warranty for 3 years, 36,000 mile or longer, if you have an extended warranty? Make sure and check on that too w/ Ford.

I just bought a 2023 Ford Transit T350 (1 ton) cargo van and it came with a really cheesy "single" horn. I went onto the Transit USA forum and found a guy that had installed "Dual Note" (2 horns) on his Transit van. The Ford Dealer told him $175 for adding a dual horn. His single horn was a FIAMM USA made horn. He had a link to a YouTube video about changing these singles to dual note horns. The video said to buy the horns on Amazon FIAMM 7201622 for $28.00. I bought those horns on Amazon for $28 and even though the little metal mounting bracket didn't fit (because this Amazon model is a universal bkt.), the YouTube video said to just unscrew the Horns from the Amazon bracket, toss it and screw the horns onto the existing Transit bracket. Mine, with only one (1) original FIAMM horn, already had a second arm for the second horn so I bolted both horns onto the original Transit bracket and it was done in 30 minutes and, they work perfectly. And, so much louder and clearer now. I put my horns in from the top and I did have to remove the driver side headlight assembly but that took 5 minutes out & 5 minutes, back in, per the YouTube video. The video said to make sure the horn opening was facing as straight down as possible to keep water out. I've been in rain and deep road water with NO problems yet.

In your Expedition case, I would look on YouTube and see if there's a video for Expedition horn replacements. Since you already have 2 horns, you should be able to bolt these Amazon FIAMM horns right to your original Expedition bracket. The 2 electrical connectors are simply push-on spade connectors. Very easy 5 minute plug-ons. These FIAMM horns work great but I read some reviews that said if you blast them continuously, like in a wedding, they will melt down and stop working. I have had these FIAMM horns on my van for a year now, used them 10-15 times and they are still perfect and still sound great! I am hoping this helps you some, Lance

Had the same thing happen to my 24 Expedition. Just got it fixed yesterday. Went under warranty and it is a 4 hrs repair job. They needed to take the active grill shutters out or remove the front bumper… something along the line.
However… a tech showed me that there are 2 horns. One higher and one lower sounding one. The higher sounding one went on mine. Made the SUV sound like an old dinky Fiat (Italian car) or clown car. There is a jumper wire going from one horn to the other. Cleaned the cruddies of the terminals on the jumper / horn and it works again. They did that to mine when they did a diag and ordered the parts.
Good luck!

When it's super cold here (like, -20c or below) my horn sounds like someone strangling a goat. It's still under extended warranty, but I'm never near the dealership when it happens. I wonder if it's a covered item.

I ordered a horn on Amazon and changed it in 1 hr. Read the reviews on Amazon.
don't get this one.
The one I ordered is a little weak though, so I'm going to get another one when it gets warmer outside.
Like others have said, check you tube for guidance. You have to remove the black plastic covers on top and loosen the radiator screws to lean the radiator a little to pull the old horn out and put the new one in.
4hrs must include their lunch and profit-sharing..

Yeh Knut:

I looked at that one that you linked to Amazon and it is NOT a FIAMM horn. It say Miliparts or something like that from CHINA?? China, Not so good!

The original "Single Horn" that came on my 2023 Ford Transit van, brand new from Ford, was a FIAMM horn, made in the USA. The 2 (1 dual) that I bought on Amazon were FIAMM 7201622 Dual Horns, made in the USA too. Never heard of Fiamm before but I am no longer into mechanics so, being out of the loop, not up to speed there any longer. But, like I said, they have been working great for a year now.

I was looking for something else on YouTube and put in Expedition Horn Replacement. No 2022's shown but only one from a 2018 Expedition that a guy showed replacing the Dual Horns because one (1) had quit working and it beeped like a clown car. This guy had bought the new horns from Ford and said about $60 for the duals w/ bracket. He didn't pull the front bumper or grill off. He took the top plastic cover off above the grille, removed some grille screws and some plastic brackets and was able to tilt everything forward enough to get the one (1) horn bracket bolt out from the top. He had reached through an access hole below the radiator from the bottom and was able to pull off the power wire connector first then, he took out the top horn bolt. The new horn set came w/ a new bracket which had a bent over hook on its top to allow him to hang it on the core support hole above the bolt hole. That made it easy to get the bolt started by hand and tightened with a box, ratchet wrench. Reached in from the bottom again plugged the wire back on. Works now and sounded good. Seemed pretty simple! I am hoping this helps somewhat? Lance

Our '19 Expedition Limited was supposed to have the dual-tone horn. I rarely used it and only heard it when hitting the lock button on the fob twice or closing either frond door with the vehicle running. After watching a YouTube video on replacing the horn with/o removing bumper and grill, I decided that ours needed replacing and I'd give it a try. I bought a replacement from Ford (looked up using the VIN number). After removing the original horn, I discovered that the original horn was only a shingle tone one, and replacement was dual-tone. It was darn near impossible to see the horn installed where it is, and I don't know why it was built that way, but it's much louder now.

Hi Going:

That's GREAT that you got your Expedition horn upgraded to Dual-Note horns! I am very sure that this is a great improvement over a single note horn. Plus, should you need it to warn another driver of any problem, at least they will be able to hear it now!

Besides these big and Elegant Expeditions need some substantial horn vs some corny clown-car horn in them. May I ask how long it took you to get it totally installed and back together? Ours is still working perfect but just curious?? Thanks, Lance

The way we did it was to remove the plastic cover between the grill and the radiator, then reach in from below to unplug and unbolt the horn and remove it from the bottom. Installing the new horn was a little trickier...we tied a string to the new one and pulled it up into place from below and when it got close, helper plugged wire in and started the bolt from down below. Probably took an hour or so to accomplish, with most of our time spent removing and reinstalling the cover. Since we didn't want to be taking bumper cover and grill out, we opted for this method which did result in both of us having our wrists chaffed working through narrow accesses. Google YouTube for a tutorial
