I've read a number of the older threads on here and none of them quite nail whether its possible to add a factory style braker controller. Lots of talk of a lot of potential part numbers but I don't actually see anybody really succeeding. Doesn't look good and the lack of information on the web seems to suggest it just isn't happening.

I have forscan and could deal with that, just looking for some confirmation its been done, and perhaps how. I see the mouser adapter to get between the small plug of the dash part to the harness, I can't imagine a bunch of custom wiring is truly necessary!

I did it in my wife's 2022. Sounds like you saw my prior posts. It definitely needed the extra wire added that was missing from the wire harness.

Just giving this a bump, need to decide on whether I mess with the OEM route or just go aftermarket.

I'd probably use a Tekonsha Prodigy P3, as the installation is simple, the wiring is simple, and you don't have to mess around with reprogramming a half a dozen different control units. believe me, you definitely want something with a manual brake override in emergency conditions, I had to use mine on an F250 when my camp trailer came unhitched on a 2-lane road at 60-ish MPH in southern Utah heading into Arizona.... it turned a total panic situation into something under control, and let my bring the trailer and truck to a safe stop on the very narrow shoulder. chocked the trailer, unhitched, mad dash to a car parts store 50 miles away before it closed, picked up a new ball mount and ball (preassembled), back to the trailer, hitched up, and we were on our way again.

geez, 10+ years ago, any full sized truck/suv came with the 2" hitch receiver, and 7 blade wiring, and had a plug under the dash with everything you need for a 3rd party brake controller, so you just needed a pigtail to go from that plug to the controller... My 2001 Ford E150 came that way, my 2002 F250, my 2008 Tacoma, etc.

Expedition

I have had numerous ford trucks to start with. Everyone of them that had the trailer toe prep I was able to add the trailer brake controller and then have the truck flashed to get it to work. So I just retired and took all my money out of my 401k and in 2024 found the green expedition that I have been wanting. It had all the toeing hitch and electrical connections. It said it had the trailer toe prep kit. So the only thing that the prep kit could be for was adding trailer brake controller. (I got the expedition to toe my camper). I got with ford and got what they said I needed and went to put it in. At that point I could not find the trailer box under the dash. So I took it back to ford to have them put it in for me. They had to check with ford to find where to plug it all in and program it. To my surprise! I got a call from them telling me that Ford said I cannot add Trailer brakes to the OEM spot on my expedition that it cannot have the trailer brake controller put on the king Ranch so now I have a 2024 expedition with 22” wheels that I spent all my money I had in my 401(k) and I can’t even pull my camper with it now. I don’t have the money to buy another expedition with the Trailer tow package in it. I don’t know why they discontinued it but all my other trucks had it my F150s so you would assume that if it has the prep pack it’s ready for trailer brakes just doesn’t have the controller put in. I would like to see what you can do about resolving this issue because there’s no other reason to have a prep package and a seven pen in the back if you can’t have brake controller, please let me know what you can do about this issue. I’m out of money.

I’m out of money. This is what I sent Ford. I’m pretty sure they won’t do anything about it. Just say tough luck but 40 years of buying Ford. That’s pretty bad.
